Hi all,
In the last week, U of AZ has posted a change to their programs. They have dropped their 2nd degree BSN and have added a mepn program (master's entry to the profession of nursing (mepn) pathway). This is available to those who already have a non-nursing bachelor's degree.
check out the link for more info:

I called to get more info. They said tuition would probably run between 35-45k(depends on residency status). They will start having info sessions on the new program starting at the end of this month.

Hello! Congratulations to all who were accepted!
:)
@herzi008: I'm in the same boat! I was accepted to the program in downtown Phoenix (Van Buren St), and I am excited I was admitted, but I'm an out-of-state resident and am unfamiliar with the area and couldn't find much information on the U of A website. I applied to both campuses on my application to improve my chances, but I, too don't know if they interpretted this as my first choice. Did you already confirm your admission to the Phoenix campus? Or are you waiting to hear back regarding the switch to Tucson? Are you also considering other programs?
If anyone has any insight on the downtown Phoenix area would be great! Thank you!
DrBaroneDC... The Phoenix location is located at the University of Arizona's Biomedical Campus. From what I have been able to gather this currently the home to the U of A's medical school and is located in downtown Phoenix about a block or so away from Arizona State. For the most part I am worried about what this area is like.... nice, ghetto (for lack of better word) etc.? Also I hear Phoenix is a huge metropolitan area and traffic can get pretty terrible. What is the public transportation like?
Koifish... I spoke with the academic advisor who made it sound like a switch between programs may be possible. But how am I suppose to know if this is something I want to do!? A class of 18 could be fantastic of terrible. The academic advisor told me to accept the Pheonix location but also email the office specialist that I would be interested in possibly changing to the Tucson program. However, I did as she said and I received an email back from the office specialist saying that I would have to deny the Phoenix location and than I would be put on the waitlist for Tucson (with no guarantee of getting in). For now I will just leave my acceptance to Phoenix alone but if I do decide that I want to battle it out for Tucson I will for sure be talking to the academic advisor instead.
But what I was told was that they tried to only put students who had put Phoenix as their first choice into this program. I am also waiting to hear back from the University of Minnesota about their Master of Nursing program.
Hi! To those of you accepted to Tucson, have you started looking into housing yet? I would appreciate any insight as to where good places to live are, etc. I am moving from Portland, OR, and I am unable to visit again prior to classes starting. Thanks and I look forward to meeting everyone!
heybucklr,
i graduated from university of oregon. portland was always a good time. i havebeen in tucson since last year and my lease is up this month. i'm primarilylooking at speedway or grant. those are both main streets that run east-west.speedway has more restaurants and shops and is a little nicer to look at. grantis a little "grittier" but the rents seem proportionally cheaper.craigslist is pretty good about selection. once you get here you will see that virtuallyevery apartment complex has for rent signs. there is an overabundance of livingspaces here. i just read a fully furnished guest house for 480/month. thatwould be convenient if you didn’t want to incur the expense of hauling all ofyour large items down here. this town is not nearly as nice to bikes as eugenebut it does have bike lanes, and a good bus system on speedway.
if you want any more info give me a buzz. i work weekends but have mon-fri off(it's pretty sweet:)). my number is 816.752.6810. and that goes for any others accepted that need info. we might as well start the networking that 15 months of pain is going to forge
Hello all! It's nice to see all the activity on here! Congrats to all who got in, and best of luck to those making tough decisions. I, too, am moving to Tucson from glorious San Diego, and am moving north of River Rd. For anyone who would like to connect on a more directed forum, I have made a Facebook MEPN page. Join and we can take our conversations there.
I agree that 15 months of a tough, tough program are going to forge connections quickly -- why not get started now? It's easy, too, to see what's going on with our MEPN class while you're already on there...
Also, does anyone know if there are 18 new admits in Phoenix and thus 72 in Tucson? Is that how they decided to split the campuses?
things to seriously consider before accepting the offer to u of a's master's entry to the profession of nursing (mepn) pathway:
1) once you start level iii of the program the classes are online and no longer in class.
2) the instructors make powerpoints from the book or from old lectures handed down to them, then read the bullet points word for word.
3) the degree granted by this program is not a master of science in nursing. it is a general master's which we were told is equivalent to a bsn. we were informed of this after we started the program!
4) the program is very disorganized. tucson may be a little better being the second year but phoenix will not as this is their first year.
5) it is difficult to get help from anyone in the college of nursing office.
this is not to detour you from the program it is so you can make an informed decision! we were not given this option! knowing what i know now i would have gone with the other acceptance that i received.

Hello all!! I was also just accepted to the program (at the Phoenix location). I had not realized there even was a program in Phoenix untill the day of interviews but was intrigued by this option and emailed admissions that I would be interested in Phoenix as well. However, they took this as I wanted Phoenix to my first choice. I am not from anywhere even remotely close to Arizona and am unfamiliar with both the Tucson and Phoenix area, so Im not sure if being accepted into the Phoenix program is a blessing or a curse. Has anyone else been accepted to Phoenix or has opinions on the cities themselves?
I spoke with admissions yesterday and it sounds like there is a pretty good chance I could swith into Tucson if I were to decide to do so.
Help Please!!
