Hi all,
In the last week, U of AZ has posted a change to their programs. They have dropped their 2nd degree BSN and have added a mepn program (master's entry to the profession of nursing (mepn) pathway). This is available to those who already have a non-nursing bachelor's degree.

I called to get more info. They said tuition would probably run between 35-45k(depends on residency status). They will start having info sessions on the new program starting at the end of this month.

Hi all, I interviewed on the 18th also and thought the interviews were fine, albeit quick. I agree that it's going to be hard to make decisions based on such a short time together. (Part of me wonders if we were paired as we were to decide between the two of us since they are taking roughly half of the interview candidates.) I'm curious, benbas11, where you heard notification would be toward the end of March? I think they are trying to finalize the Phx campus MEPN program and won't release the names of the 90 admitted students until they know if they have a Phx program or not, since it could affect the 90 that they want in Tucson.
I'd like to keep in touch and hear about admittance. It'd be nice to know a few people starting for the class of 2013. I'll do the same!
Hi Zuzu19,
I work with a guy whose wife just graduated from the BSN program. I talked to her briefly and she was the one who told me about the interview set-up, and when they let her know she was in. I figured since they kept the interview process the same, it was likely the timeline would be the same.
I like the thought about being in competition with the other candidates :) I had kinda the same thought, but I really do think it will likely be based on GPA, as most of the field of candidates are pretty similar. I do hope they let us know asap, as I need to find a new apartment and I don't want to live close to campus unless I'm in the program.
I just wish when they asked me about wether I liked technologies encroachment on the medical field I hadn't told them computers will be the downfall of civilization :icon_roll, hehe.
Hi benbas11,
Did you really answer that question with computers bringing down civilization?! I think nurses who spend all their time charting would agree! After the interview I talked to a few people and it seemed like we all got the "how do TV and other media portray nurses and what do you think of it?" question. You're the first one I've heard of who had a different question -- interesting. I really hope we find out soon. I was patient the first week, now I'm constantly checking my email! Good luck!
i didn’t think of that answer in time . i can't imagine anyone giving any answer other than how great the advances are and how it is improving efficiency and care in the medical setting. but maybe there was someone who hates computers and told them so.....in that case they only need to choose from 189 candidates. i also had the media portrayal question. i told them it was all a horrible soap opera with virtually no basis in reality, which is why i don't own a t.v. hopefully they'll let us know soon.
Hi all, they said they would let us know in two to three weeks. I also asked one of the staff members who were there about the exact number of students they need, and she said 72 Tucson +18 Phoenix if that branch opens otherwise all the 90 will be in Tucson. I am hoping we will hear in less than a week.
akkb, thanks for the info. I thought they would take 90 in Tucson and some additional number for Phx...this is interesting to learn.
Does anyone know what they require in terms of immunizations, etc. before we begin the program?
Also, there's a facebook page for 2013 Hopefuls at https://www.facebook.com/groups/272054546198509/
Happy waiting!
Congratulations Zuzu,
I have applied and am likely accepted at pmi for a 30 week bridge to adn. It would be cheaper and about half the time, but the Masters will give me more opportunities. Ive been out of school a few years, it's kinda scary to think that I'm about to sign up for 15 months of pain . It will go quick.....we hope. I thought about asking for an email list of accepted. It would be cool to rent a house close with people who are gonna share the same grueling schedule, but I know they would never release it.
Sorry to hear that, akkb. Did you get put on a waiting list?
