New BSN students at MCG Augusta!!

U.S.A. Georgia

I wanted to start a thread for everyone going to MCG in Augusta this summer so we can kind of get to know each other and discuss stuff so we aren't all so lost and nervous. If you are going post here. Some questions I have:

-Where are you living?

-Are you going to the open house on the 25?

-What all do we need to get for school?

-Does anyone know what the curriculum is like there? (i've heard its really tough!)

-When are you moving to Augusta?

Again, this is just for fun so we can all get to know each other! Can't wait to meet everyone :)

hey also how do you send a PM? i cant figure out how to reply

The mentor is just a rising senior nursing student. They are just there to help us out and give us some tips on the program! Just to kind of guide us during our first few weeks! And we just signed up at one of the booths at the open house. Im not exactly sure how you can get one unless you try and email one of the senior nursing students. Maybe they would know? If you can't find out, I can try to ask mine when I hear from them. I don't think they have been assigned quite yet. And to send a private message there should be a reply button right under the message you received. If you still dont see it try clicking on the little piece of paper with the pencil on it on one of these posts and you can send a PM that way. Hope that helps!

Hey I can't send PMs because of my account type or something.. anyways my mcg email isnt receiving emails right now so ill give you my other one.. its [email protected]. Thank you for sending me all of this I know it is a lot! If you wouldnt mind finding out how to get a mentor from yours when they contact you that would be great! My name is taylor btw

It's no problem!! Ill try to get you our list of books sent in a few minutes! Im not sure whats wrong with your account? I know I at least have the free account and I can PM. So I don't think you have to pay. But I hope you get it figured out! Let me know if you need anything else! And I will definitely ask my mentor when I hear from them! Ill ask if there is something you can do to get one!

Congrats on starting nursing school! I am an alum of the MCG BSN class '07. MCG is a tough program but the instructors care about the students. I thought I was very well prepared for the real world of nursing when I graduated. Best of luck!

Thanks RNBell! It's always encouraging to hear good things about the program!!

HI! Did they say at the open house what our grades for 2nd semester had to be that were going to be sent to them on our final transcript? im kinda worried!!

I don't think they said anything about our grades. Do you mean grades for pre-req classes or regular classes? I don't think we had to have a specific grade, probably just needs to be a passing grade. I wouldn't worry! Have you decided on a school for sure yet?

Hey I'm in the 2011 Class. I was wondering if any of you have seen the recommended book list. I thought I saw one with books like How to Survive and Maybe Even Love Nursing School. Does anyone know where I can find that list. I have the required textbook list, just not the recommended one. Thanks!

Hey! I think we received the list in one of the emails for the open house. I can't remember exactly. I think I still have my list though. Would you like me to send it to you?

i just stumbled across this thread and wanted to put in my two cents! i just graduated on the 8th of this month from mcg but i went to the satellite campus in athens. the curriculum is the same of course- i can't count the number of times i heard "we have to do it this way because that's what augusta is doing." prepare to study more than you have every studied in your life if you want to do really well. that really is the key to doing great and limiting the stress! and don't bother trying to read all of the 'assigned' chapters as there is no way physically possible to do that! anyway, just thought this was an awesome thread and it would have been great to have something like this when i was going through it.

good luck!!

Hello to all of the new BSN students at MCG. My name is Michelle and I just graduated in May from there. I just took my NCLEX exam today, and now just waiting for the results. Congratulations to everyone that got in. I really enjoyed attending college there. I was a class officer, and I volunteered for every event that we had. Professor T had asked me to come in today for your math exam, but due to taking the NCLEX, I couldn't make it. Just a few words of advice. Do not procrastinate on doing your class work. The amount of stuff that is required is very overwhelming. It seems like it will never end. If you are the kind of person that studies best in a group, go ahead and get with people to start study sessions. I met the nicest friends there and 3 of us became a permanent study group. We pretty much lived together for the past couple of years. They made the years bearable. Another bit of advise is to study, study, study. But my biggest advise is to learn how to answer NCLEX style questions! At the end of your two years there you will have a week of NCLEX review from the MEDSPUB people. They gave us access to a website with 3000 NCLEX questions for us to use to study in preparation for the NCLEX. If I knew then, what I know now, I would have learned how to answer questions before school started. After doing all of those questions and learning how to really read NCLEX questions and answers, I could easily pass every test given there without a sweat (can't say it helped at all for the actual NCLEX, but I haven't figured out yet what would). So, take your MedsPub assignments and learn from them. Don't just answer them, get the answers, and then do them again. Also, get a book on how to answer NCLEX questions and actually read it (unlike me). I really wished I had now!

If anyone has any questions about anything, just ask. I would be more than happy to help. Hopefully we trained your mentors to do a good job for you, but in case you needed anything else, just let me know.

Enjoy your summer because come Fall you more than likely won't have a life until you graduate! But it is worth it!
