New BSN students at MCG Augusta!!

Published

I wanted to start a thread for everyone going to MCG in Augusta this summer so we can kind of get to know each other and discuss stuff so we aren't all so lost and nervous. If you are going post here. Some questions I have:

-Where are you living?

-Are you going to the open house on the 25?

-What all do we need to get for school?

-Does anyone know what the curriculum is like there? (i've heard its really tough!)

-When are you moving to Augusta?

Again, this is just for fun so we can all get to know each other! Can't wait to meet everyone :)

Hi! This is a great topic!

1. I dont know where I am living yet. Still trying to find a place and possibly a roommate. I may stay on campus at least this summer.

2. I am going to the open house.

3. I don't know everything but I know we will need uniforms and basic equipment. Possibly a PDA.

4. Yes it is tough. They have a list on the MCG website of the curriculum. When I went on a tour the assist. dean told me it was Mon & Tues all day in lab and class. Wed & Thurs all day in clinical and we will be getting ready for clinical the nights before in the clinical setting. Then Fri more class, and it will usually be our test days. Then she said weekends are for papers and projects. Most students spend Sunday studying. So its a lot of work. This summer though we wont have clinical just class and lab 5 days a week.

5. And I am planning on moving to augusta hopefully about a week before classes start but it depends on where I live.

Hi tnm88!

1. I might stay in College Stations by ASU.

2. I will be going to the open house on the 25th (woot my B-day)

3. I'm guessing we will need the basics like uniforms and nursing equipment

4. The heard the the curriculum is challenging

5. Hopefully, I move in at least a 5-7 days before class.

I don't know where I'm living yet. I guess I will look around on the day we go for open house. The assist.dean also took me around. I heard that she is very serious and makes it seem a lot more difficult than it really is but that it is still pretty challenging. What would we use the pda for? Would we have to have a certain one? I hope the open house is helpful because I feel like I know nothing about nursing school.

Are any of yall planning on getting a parking pass? I have been told to get the reserved pass. It is $60 a month and I feel like that is kind of a lot. Do you know if 2 people can share a pass and just ride together?

Umm im not sure if we definitely need a PDA or if they will even let us use one. I just know that a lot of schools do have students that use them. I think we will probably get a list of things we need at the open house if its on a recommended list ill probably get one. I think that the open house will be very informative! It will give us a chance to get to know each other a little better and probably learn a lot about the program. And I am planning on getting a parking spot. But not a reserved one. I think a non-reserved one is only $300 total. Ive heard it's not too bad having a regular spot. Im not sure if 2 people can share a pass or not. It would probably work if they just carpooled everyday.

Hey! Unfortunately something has come up and I will not be able to attend the open house on Saturday! Would it be possible for someone that is going to post on here any important information that I may miss? I have emailed MCG and let them know and the lady said it shouldn't be a problem but I just didn't want to miss out on anything that I may need to know. Also, is it possible for someone to find out if we need or are allowed to have a PDA? I would like to get one if we can have one but would like to start saving money now as they are pretty expensive! Thank you so much and I look forward to hearing from yall :)

Ill let you know about everything we do. Ill see about the PDA as well! If you think of anything else just let me know and ill try to find out for you!

tnm88

Hey! Were you able to make it to the open house? I know you previously said you couldn't make but I just wanted to check. If not ill try to let you know about everything. To answer you about the PDA they didnt say anything about it so im pretty sure we don't need one. But they did give us a lot of info, including a couple reading assignments for the first week. But let me know if you need it and ill send you the info!

Hey! No I wasn't able to go. Did you get to meet a lot of people? Reading Assignments already? WOW thats soon. If you don't mind could I get them? Did they say if they did not allow PDAs? I would like to get one just to have if they are allowed. Thank you for replying so fast! :)

Hey! I sent you a PM just because there was so much info! But im not sure if they allow PDAs or not. I didnt hear anyone even mention them. Maybe you could email one of the senior students through groupwise. They all said they would be more than happy to answer any questions we had. We also signed up for mentors. You may want to try and see if you can get one!

Hey Thanks!

What is a mentor? how did you sign up for that?
