  1. Hi! Im not completely sure if it is more difficult to get into the CNL program or not. I would think so because there are less spots, but more people seem to apply for the BSN program so im not really sure. I want to say I heard someone say that they had somewhere around 400 people apply to the BSN program and there are (I think) around 120 spots total. Im really not completely sure I know there are 81 of us in Augusta and I think about 40 in Athens. But I love MCG! Im so glad that I was able to go there and I really hope to get my masters here as well!!
  2. Hi! I am currently a student at MCG, but im in the BSN program. As far as I know the CNL students do have a degree in something other than nursing. Graduates of this program are eligible to take the NCLEX licensure examination for Registered Nurses (RN) and the CNL Certification exam offered by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing. It is a tough program and its about 50% online. The website has a lot of info on it. It is www.mcg.edu/son Hope this helps some!! Let me know if you have anymore questions and I can try to help!
  3. Your welcome!! Yeah I started out as a psychology major then switched to nursing! My grades got better once I switched. But yes I love MCG! Everyone there is just so nice and so helpful! They really do whatever they can to help you out! I went to Ga. Southern before I transfered here. Good luck with applying and hopefully you'll get in! Let me know if theres anything else you think of!!
  4. Hi! I just started the BSN program this summer at MCG! Im not sure what all they are looking for in the admission office, but I can let you know what I did and what some other students told me they did! First of all I do think GPA is important, but I don't think that is all they look at. I certainly didn't have the highest GPA so I really tried to make up for it in other areas! I worked really hard on my essay and really explained about my determination to become a nurse! I also had people read over and check my essay a lot! I also think most of us did have some kind of shadowing or volunteering exp. Anything that helps you stand out to the admissions people helps! Definitely try to get your app in before the early deadline which they strongly suggest doing! As far as shadowing nurses or doctors, I would personally pick a nurse over a doctor since it's for nursing school, but im sure they would both help. And yes get in the shadowing or volunteering before you apply so you can put it on your app! Oh and if you had a lower GPA starting out, but it got better as you got into your pre-reqs that means a lot. Thats how I was, my freshman year was challenging for me and b/c of some history classes I had a couple C's. But in my nursing pre-reqs I had all A's and B's and my last semester I got all A's. I would just try to do your best especially in your science classes like A&P and Microbiology! Also go on the closer look tour at the school and ask the assistant dean all these questions! She was really helpful and told us what they like to see! I didn't go till after I was accepted, but I think it would have been helpful to go before! I can't really think of anything else right now, but if you have anymore questions let me know and I will try to help! Good luck!! :)
  5. Congratulations!!! I think that is wonderful that you got in! I can see why you didn't accept augusta! I found out that I was offered the same thing you were, a guaranteed spot in Augusta and wait list in Athens. I was shocked b/c I only applied to Athens, but they called me and wanted to offer it to me anyways. I ended up accepting it after talking with my family so we packed up and just moved this weekend to Augusta! Im happy with my decision and I believe it was the right one! They also told me that an athens opening was very unlikely as well. Looks like you really lucked out!
  6. Hey! I think we received the list in one of the emails for the open house. I can't remember exactly. I think I still have my list though. Would you like me to send it to you?
  7. Hey! I really appreciate you responding to my post, but I have already found a place to live. Im sorry that the post is still up, but I couldn't figure out how to delete it. I hope you can find some one to live with though! I know the places I listed above are really nice, but also really expensive. I happened to find a two bedroom apartment that (I think) is nice, safe, and affordable. If you are interested I could let you know the name of it. Sorry that I can't help more than that. I hope you find something that works though! See you this summer :)
  8. I don't think they said anything about our grades. Do you mean grades for pre-req classes or regular classes? I don't think we had to have a specific grade, probably just needs to be a passing grade. I wouldn't worry! Have you decided on a school for sure yet?
  9. Hi! I applied to Gwinnett Tech in November when I found out they were starting a nursing program. From what I was told the program is very competitive. I believe you have to have all the pre-reqs done before you start as well (but I may be wrong). I know you need at least A&P 1 and 2, micro, probably a chem class, and a math class. I ended up not going there because I was accepted to MCG. But I believe there is a discussion going on in the Georgia forum. Hope that helps a little bit. Good luck!!
  10. Thanks RNBell! It's always encouraging to hear good things about the program!!
  11. It's no problem!! Ill try to get you our list of books sent in a few minutes! Im not sure whats wrong with your account? I know I at least have the free account and I can PM. So I don't think you have to pay. But I hope you get it figured out! Let me know if you need anything else! And I will definitely ask my mentor when I hear from them! Ill ask if there is something you can do to get one!
  12. The mentor is just a rising senior nursing student. They are just there to help us out and give us some tips on the program! Just to kind of guide us during our first few weeks! And we just signed up at one of the booths at the open house. Im not exactly sure how you can get one unless you try and email one of the senior nursing students. Maybe they would know? If you can't find out, I can try to ask mine when I hear from them. I don't think they have been assigned quite yet. And to send a private message there should be a reply button right under the message you received. If you still dont see it try clicking on the little piece of paper with the pencil on it on one of these posts and you can send a PM that way. Hope that helps!
  13. Hey! I sent you a PM just because there was so much info! But im not sure if they allow PDAs or not. I didnt hear anyone even mention them. Maybe you could email one of the senior students through groupwise. They all said they would be more than happy to answer any questions we had. We also signed up for mentors. You may want to try and see if you can get one!
  14. tnm88 Hey! Were you able to make it to the open house? I know you previously said you couldn't make but I just wanted to check. If not ill try to let you know about everything. To answer you about the PDA they didnt say anything about it so im pretty sure we don't need one. But they did give us a lot of info, including a couple reading assignments for the first week. But let me know if you need it and ill send you the info!
  15. tnm88 Ill let you know about everything we do. Ill see about the PDA as well! If you think of anything else just let me know and ill try to find out for you!
