New ASN RN in Ft. Worth-No jobs to be had

Nurses Career Support

Published

I graduated from an ASN program in OKC and moved to Texas for family reasons about two months ago. I've passed boards, but am finding NO job opportunities for new grads, especially with the associates degree. I'm a bit broken over it. I have a bachelors in behavioral science, experience teching as a nurse assistant, and that beautiful RN designation, but I don't qualify for any job here...especially in critical care related fields. At this point I would work anywhere in the hospital. Unless by some miracle I could claw my way into a notoriously competitive residency, I'm up a certain creek without a paddle. My dream is CRNA, and it's killing me because all of my classmates in Oklahoma were taken in right after boards, to every unit known to man, and are being trained while I crank out resumes to everything, and watch my bank account dwindle. I could really use some advice! I've even eyeballed Davita, but am concerned if I try something that specialized, I will never emerge.

Cast a wide wide net and look outside the hospital. Experience is the key that will unlock the door to a hospital job for you. That and a BSN. Also, look as far outside the city as possible. The more rural the area, the more opportunity for ADNs.

Tiny towns, here I come! Thank you for the advice, I will absolutely widen the search!
