I suggest you to be a US citizen first before going back to Philippines to study nursing coz there is a possibility in the future that the local boards in the Philippines will be mandatory to the Filipinos so why take the local board if you're ultimate target is to work in US.

How long will it take me to finish? Anybody studying there right now who could help me?

What course did you finish in college? You will finish faster than the regular students if your school will give full credit to some subjects in your previous course ( much better if it's a science course ).

I assume you are an immigrant in the US (green card holder) because your wife is a RN. I don't know how long had you stayed in NY, but if I do the math, you've been there for 2 to 3 years. If you plan to be a US citizen first (as suggested) then you have to stay some more years in the US to meet the required years of residency (i think it's 5 years). Waiting for more than 2 more years to be a US Citizen and delaying your plan of taking your BSN in the Philippines can be one of your choice. Or you can earn your BSN in the Philippines first. If I am in your shoes, I surely decide to pursue my BSN in the Phils. Taking the NLE as an added requirement for a State licensing is not that big problem. Take it as a preparatory exam to boost up your confidence in taking the NCLEX. Immigration is not your problem anymore, unlike the most of us.

Choosing your 2ndCourser school is a confusing task because there's a lot of 2ndcourser school in the Philippines. Majority of them offers the BSN course to be finished within 2 to 3 years. I suggest to check their facilities, teacher's integrity and their system first before enrolling. You can visit the school during regular school days so that you can observe and ask the students and even teachers. Good Luck.

this site has very helpful and informative forums to which i really appreciate. my family and i reside in the u.s. but still not citizens(only my daughter). my wife's a nurse in ny. got 2 kids..1 born in the phils(age 4) and the 2nd here(age 1). i resigned from work(i'm not an rn,btw) to take care of kids since we dont have any family here. hard to find a reliable and a not-so-expensive babysitter here. we plan to go back to the phils so i could study rn as my 2nd course(waaay too expensive here,even with financial aids). i'm curious about pamantasan ng makati. is it a good school for nursing? can i enroll this october? i'm going to study full time including weekends. how long will it take me to finish? anybody studying there right now who could help me?

yup, financial aids, expensive babysitter....i can relate. but if you are an immigrant and money is not a problem, sure you can go back and study in october. you don't have to be a us citizen, by the way. if you choose to file for a citizenship, you will need a student visa before even registering or applying in nursing school back there. plus being a us citizen or non filipino resident will cost you double tuition. i suggest contact your school of choice now, and have them take a look at your transcript so they can check and see if they can credit your classes from your old school. also, make sure you do that asap if you really want to study in pi. be sure to ask them how long will it take you to finish, and ask them for a copy of their nursing curriculum. i heard about the name of the nursing school you mentioned, but i don't know if they are good. pls. choose a good school, don't go for the shorter route. a second courser normally spend 2 and a half to three years in nursing. goodluck to you.

we're in the same situation. got a toddler and want to study nursing as 2nd degree. my university will definitely credit all my ge courses but i'm still thinking if its worth our (me and daughter) separation with my husband. i heard that bs nursing is now a 5-year program in the Phils? have you heard of this? anyway, good luck and keep us posted on whatever you decide.

not sure about the 5 year program but the schools here still offers 4 yr. BSN course.

in your previous course, the following subjects (w/c you most likely have taken) should be credited to your bsn degree:

*in lieu of nstp 11 & 22 (6units/2 subject)

female "2nd courser" required to take these

it's ideal to enrol in 2nd semester because anatomy & physiology subject is being offered during said period.

for a 2nd degree, it will take more or less 3 school-years and 2 summers to graduate bsn.

the 5-year bsn program is just a bill filed in congress. status quo: 4-year course.
