Congrats. When is your next survey due? Regardless of what position, I always checked the old survey to make sure deficiencies pertinent to me were answered or they were in the process.
And be friendly with other dept heads.
Good luck.
Thanks for responding! The next survey is due any day now and I start on Monday!!?
Hey! Maybe the facility is really trying to do RIGHT. Unless OP starts getting bad vibes ... It could be an OK position. I didn't mean to 'poison' anyone's thinking. But I always ask re survey (even at INTERVIEWS). Don't want to be surprised.
OP can check out the web sites (do they still have a hard-copy of the last survey in the lobby?). OP asked for tips - I would suggest getting to know the whole nsg team, MDS, SD, IC, UMs, supervisors. They should all have their own job responsibilities. No need to spin your wheels duplicating tasks, but that might be an option for the future to consider reassignment
Is there a union contract? Due for renegotiation when? Who is the shop representative? Be in the know ...

Do far so good! I love it, however it is only day 3 today! My facility is just about ready for survey! A lot of things were corrected from the previous one! I will be shadowing each team member just to get an idea of what they do and how they do it. You didn’t poison anything! Don’t worry I chuckled at your comment!
Don’t let the staff or upper management take advantage of you. Be nice but firm in your expectations. NEVER TAKE A SALARY JOB. stay on top of patient weight, utilize third party services such as home health and hospice. Be strict with PPE rules, ensure the cleanliness of the kitchen and food for your patients.
And NO milk in the utility room specimen refrigerator!!
Psycho-active med monitoring.
Personnel issues like yearly evals, current licenses may fall into your lap.
Like prev said, many tasks may be OK for others, but don't readily accept hand-offs.
Who does nsg on-call & wkend superv among upper nsg? Will you be MOD (manager on duty for the weekend) - MODs usually cover the rest of the house (nsg usually covers nsg). They usually cover 4 hours on Sat/Sun and take 8 hrs off somewhere. They usually are in their offices doing their 'catch-up' stuff, but nsg never had that luxury!
Not sure if you have any LTC/NH background, but in LTC, one wears many hats. Like the Coast Guard motto = 'semper paratis'.
