I learned my lesson to never share pay rates.I just started my new job and starting off I get paid 70 cents more than a cna who has been there for almost a year. Why is the pay rates different? She has been a cna longer. Is it because of cost of living and competiveness among hospitals.I would appreciate this if someone could elaborate with me on that.Thank you very much!!!

My guess is that they started paying their new CNAs more in recent weeks/months. They probably won't raise her pay until she says something. I'd be p.o.'d if I found out a new employee was making more than me.
What lesson did you learn? Did something happen?

Are you full time w/ benefits? Is the other CNA also ft w/bens.? This makes a difference usually, as does shift diffenetials. In most places a person can be paid more $/hr. if they forego benefits. Perhaps this is the difference. Or, as previously stated, the facility is now starting at a higher wage to get the help in that they need.

Yes, you definitely don't ever share your pay rate. Only after I had been in my last job for months did I ever talk about what I was making at the hospital with another brand new tech. That's just a rule of the professional world. The people you work with don't need to know what you make (unless you actually build a close relationship with people- and even then, use your judgement).
