Exciting morning... less than 10 minutes after I arrive I had a staff member come to me and ask me to take her BP. She was shaking and upset so I knew right away that she was seriously not doing well. She is in her 50s/60s with history of cardiac issues and CA (not sure what kind). BP was 180/120 manually (I took it 3 times) and HR 160. She was dizzy and had a headache. My pulse ox was not working. I had a principal drive her to the hospital. Hoping to get an update from her soon....

Hope she is OK. With a BP like that she has more treatment options, so hopefully a quick hospitalization for her. Good pick up.
UPDATE- She was treated in the ER for a migraine.
She told me her BP was still 170/118 in the ER and they only gave her IV toradol with no cardiac consult. She called her cardiologist's office who were dumbfounded that they did no cardiac work up. She will be following up with her cardiologist, hopefully tomorrow.
With a rate like that she should have at least been overnight obs.

Hmm..was she not tachy there? Typically everyone that age with those complaints and that history gets at least an EKG, if not the full workup. Then again even if she wasn't tachy then you still follow the stroke pathway and get a trop. Very odd.
I can't remember exactly what she said her HR was in the ER. Around 130, I think.
She was back at work yesterday and doing fine so I'm glad for that. She was livid about not having any cardiac testing done. She was at the ER for under 2 hours. In any case, I'm sure she'll let me know what her cardiologist says (she tends to over share)
