NEU Direct Entry Online?

I saw that yesterday too and I may be mistaken, but it looked like the online track was for Nursing Administration only??

I spoke with an admissions advisor today. It is new, it starts in January, May and September every year and holds 48 students per class. May 2012 is the first cohort for this particular program. The BSN portion is online, with labs and some exams at the Burlington Campus (none at the Boston campus). Obviously, clinicals are also done at designated sites. She said that Health Administration is the only direct link at this time since it's the only MSN portion offered entirely online. Once you obtain your BSN and work for 6 months, however, you can apply to any of the other master's programs available. She said it's the exact same accreditation as the regular direct-entry, and the only way an employer would know you completed courses online is if you told them. For the first cohort starting this May, they are offering spots to qualified applicants that applied to the Direct Entry traditional program that they did not have a space for. If there are any openings, they'll look at other applicants. Also, if they feel you are qualified, you might be offered a spot in the September cohort.

I had applied for the direct entry program starting in the fall, but wasn't accepted to the on campus portion but got a call today for the Burlington campus. I'm already in at Regis, but got wait-listed at MGH so I'm not sure, I am considering it tho. Is anyone else considering this option?

The admissions rep I spoke with said they'd give me a decision by next week. I got accepted into the UMASS Boston ABSN program and waitlessed at MGH, so if I did get into NEU I'm not sure which I'd go with. Any reason you're pursuing the DE instead of the ABSN?

@cwrn1 I'm interested in becoming an NP which is what I applied to Regis and MGH for as well. When I talked to someone they said once I completed the bsn portion I could re-apply to the MSN portion. I am considering this though because I think that maybe having the experience working as a nurse will be better in the long run then just going directly to the np portion because I think the experience would be beneficial. Ive taken online courses before but taking the nursing classes online makes me nervous, do you feel the same way?I'm hoping to meet with an advisor before I have to make my decision though!

@Kcarm, you said you didn't get in to the campus program at NEU for Direct Entry. If you don't mind me asking, did you receive a letter notifying you? I'm still waiting to hear and am going crazy! At the interview they told me I would hear mid-March, by April 1st. I was also waitlisted at MGH =(

@hale.bale I received a call this morning informing me that I wasn't into the direct entry on campus but was accepted to the hybrid and after the call I received an e-mail with the "official letter". I'm so up in the air about it though! I'm really hoping to get off the waitlist at mgh, what specialty did you apply for?

Oy, a phone call!? I would have a hard time catching my breath! I applied to the FNP at MGH, and I got my letter notifying that I waitlisted early last week. Blech.

I did have a phone call with one of the admissions advisors and she said the program has been in the works for about a year. I think if you aren't familiar with online courses then it's something to really think over. Otherwise, my impression of nursing courses is that it's tough due to the amount of work, not necessarily the difficulty of the content. I do feel confident in doing it all online, especially because the lab portion is still in person, and it's not like NEU is a new nursing program all together. They are a reputable school; especially for nursing so I'm really not to worried. I'm considering going with UMASS for the ABSN since is about 15-20k cheaper, and I can always apply to a masters program if I decide to continue after my BSN.

Hmm, I can't find much information about this program on their site. I filled out the information site last night and got 5 phone calls from them today when I was at work. I will call them back tomorrow to get some more information. Where did you apply, do you have a link? I am just having a tough time finding info because it is so new. I live in Burlington, so the program would be great. I am waiting to hear from Simmons and am on the waitlist at Regis.

You'll get set up with admissions adviser and they'll send you all the info and how to apply. They pretty much hold your hand through it and make sure you get everything. Also, the phone call is VERY informative.
