Nesting Micros who are on Phototherapy Blankets

Published

What does your NICU do to build a good developmental nest with the phototherapy blankets? We have found that the blankets are so stiff, particularly at the bottom with the cord coming out that it has been hard to find a satisfying way to securely nest our micros while on the phototherapy blanket. The last NICU I worked at just build really large nests and used a thin strap over the phototherapy blanket and then tucked under the blanket to create walls on each side of the baby. My current NICU has felt that that eliminates space for lines, transducers, etc. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

We put the baby on the mat and build the nest around them.

We don't put micros on blankets, they have to be 1500 grams or more. Any baby smaller than that would go under Neoblues or spotlights and be nested as usual, but we do our best to not obstruct skin exposure with their snugglie straps.

We don't use phototherapy blankets on micros, either. We use banks of overhead phototherapy lights that hang over the top or sides of the isolette, so they can be nested as usual in blanket rolls or snugglie products.

Same, the large overhead lights are used on micros. Nests are built around them like usual.
