Okay, so I need to vent a little. Tomorrow is my very first clinical and I will be in the Emergency Department doing health histories and vitals, etc. I am a little nervous about it though because I feel like i'm going to forget how to put on the BP cuff or something simple like that. I'm trying to take it easy but I'm extrremely stressed because being the procrastinator that I am sometimes, I have to get my hospital issued badge tomorrow morning before clinical! I dont' know why I didn't get it sooner, but I didn't and now I'm nervous that something is going to go wrong and I won't be able to get it and do my clinical. I also need to get different white scrub pants tomorrow morning because the ones I bought are way too big. The last thing I need is to be stressed before I go into clinical! Oh, by the way it's an afternoon clinical, so I do have a few hours to get these things in the morning. I hope everything works out well. If anyone has any advice for me for when working in the ED I'm all ears!! Thanks everyone.

The only thing I have for you is to RELAX! Just remember that EVERY one in the ED was a beginner at one time or another! I think you will find them to be very understanding with you. Just don't try to "fake" Knowing something, If you don't kow how to do something ,or how to work a machine Just ask someone!
My first day in the ED was VERY interesting! My husband is a firefighter/Paramedic and we know ALOT of the people who work in our ED because of his job! They were waiting for me, and took upon themselves to give me "an experience"! I was so nervous because I didn't want them all to think that I was an idiot! Everything worked out for me, and I'm sure you will do fine! Just remember....... RELAX, and enjoy the ride!
Oh, yea... In the future... DON'T PROCRASTINATE!

Well, how did it go? Hopefully, you had a great day. It helps for me to remember that 99% of the things we worry about, we worry needlessly! Have a great second day!

Okay, so everything went fine. It was so much fun to see all the kinds of people that come walking in there. As I am from a rural area, I don't get to see people of all races and socioeconomic backgrounds as I did today. It was nice to be able to get my feet wet and do vitals on little kids as well as older adults. I even got to help the MD put a cast on, which was fun. I can't wait to see what comes through the doors next week! Thanks everyone for for the encouragement. I felt much better after making myself take a breather and relax.
