I'm starting at a level 1 Trauma center as an ER nurse next week, I'm somewhat excited but most of all very nervous.
I'm coming from a small community hospital's ER after only like 6-7 months, I've only participated three codes in my whole career as a nurse and only one of them was in actually in the ER. The other two were on the floor and nursing home I used to work at.
The job was close to home (20 minutes vs 1.5-2 hours) to home and at the same time I wanted to see more and learn more as I'm not getting any younger.
Any tips on how to adjust to the changes?

I'm thinking that a Level I trauma Center will have an organized orientation program.
It is probably normal to be nervous. Speak up if you don't know something or if you haven't done a procedure. Most likely you know more than you think you do.

What an awesome opportunity for you! Congrats on the new job. I expect being a little nervous would be perfectly normal, but I bet a Level 1 will have a pretty thorough orientation before cutting you loose on your own. You'll do great!

I admire the leap. You're brave enough to take the chance. You're brave enough to absorb whatever's thrown at you.
Good luck.

Congrats!!!
I'm actually starting a position in the new year at a hospital Level 1 Trauma ER, which also has a burn unit.
I plan on doing some self studying on Trauma, ER, ACLS, PALS and PEARS in the new year to have some idea on what may come in the doors; they have a great comprehensive orientation as well, so I will take advantage of that as well.
You can self study to have some idea and build upon it during orientation.
Sending positive vibes to your success!
