I feel like in the healthcare industry it is more difficult to negotiate vacation time. Has anyone been successful or not been succesful in negotiating? I am going to drop down quite a few days when leaving my current employer because of how long I have been here, hoping to negotiate, but have not been successful in the past, any help appreciated!

Hmmm...I've been with my practice 11 years and get 8 weeks/year plus 1 week CME. No negotiation needed. Maybe if this is an important issue for you, negotiate it?

You don't mention if you have already taken a new spot or not. What is the culture/standard of the office you're entering? If everyone starts at the same point and go from there, that is a fair deal. Short that, comparisons of similar practices and similar positions in the area ought to tell you if you're in the ball park or not.

A friend of mine gets 2 weeks with no CME. My benefit package included 25 PTO, 5 CME, and 8-10 holiday depending on how they land. Each year PTO goes up 1 day to the 10 year max of 35. There's no way I'd go with less than 20 days not including CME or holiday. Life's just too short not to enjoy your family. Good luck with the negotiations.

I work at a big organization so I feel it is pretty set in stone.....but they are usually great about giving providers off the days they want if it doesn't leave the clinic without enough access (I get 6 weeks a year plus 1 week CME)

I work for a state agency, so our leave rate is fixed by statute with no negotiation possible.
