needle sticks

Hi everyoneLast night I was giving insulin and as I went to push the safety up somehow I poked my finger..immedaitly started panicking. Washed my hands used alcohol on the affected area. Told the supervisor filled out paperwork..was told not to worry the resident is clear of any blood bourne illness (I work in a long term care facility)...needless to say I'm still panicking. The resident consented to a blood draw but my supervisor says its just for my reassurance they already know his complete history...still panicking

The 1st time is the worst. After that when you end up fine you worry a lot less.

I had blood tinged saliva spray into my eye once. I went into panic mode. Luckily, everything was ok but I was worried due to patient risk factors. I learned that eye exposure carries less of a risk but any risk is scary, even if it was 0.00001

I had a resident cleverly hide a big fat liver biopsy needle in drapes so when I was cleaning up my room I got a deep poke in my palm. Since the patient was as yellow as a pumpkin I wasn't too happy about it. That was a looong time ago, so state of the art wasn't what it is now: they gave me two butt-cheeks worth of gamma globulin IM (dosed by weight, so I got a lot of it, LOL) and wished me luck.

Now I know that hepatitis can lurk around unseen for 30 years and increase the risk of liver cancer, but it's been close to forty and my sclerae are still white, so I'm thinking I can relax about it now. :)

some girl in my class stuck herself after she gave insulin to some patient, she stuck her self as she threw the needle in the puncture proof container, she filled out the paperwork. I hope she's okay.
