Need Your Opinion

I am considering a position at a LTC as an RN. I have to let them know this week.........The staffing ratio is one nurse for 20-22 residents on days with 3 aides for 66 residents (three nurses). Is that standard staffing or scary staffing? :bugeyes: Jan

Hi. That actually sounds pretty good to me. We are running at 38 residents to 1 nurse, 2-3 CNAs. And only 1 nurse at night, 1 CNA at night for the same 38 residents. We are certified for 45 and if we are at full census we still have the same staff numbers. I wish I could find a job in LTC around here that staffs like the facility that you have applied. It would be a dream!

Are you saying there are 3 aides for 66 patients giving each aide 22 patients??? My nurses on the day shift have between 15 and 24 patients depending on census. They would scream if they had 38 for the day shift.

I care for 35 residents with 2-3 CNA's on day shift (6a--6p). There's never much "down time" but I do get everything done.:D

Sounds feasible for nursing, but not for your aides........WOW! That's a lot for aide/resident ratio! Is that short staffed? Or just normal?

I noticed they are advertising for aides for every shift, so they are down. I just dont want to get stuck doing aide work as well as my own. Seems like there should be at least 2 aides for 20-22 residents
