Does anyone have experience with obtaining pt glucometer strips and BD insulin syringes. I have a pt who's MD did not write directions (according to pharmacy) for the glucometer strips so they are holding them. Pt has 2 strips left (just discharged from hospital) ... What's the best way to get these things quick? Are they OTC at the pharmacy? Doesn't help that today is sunday.

Yes.

#1 Call the pharmacy and have them send you exactly what they want written on the script.

#2 Page on-call and have him call the pharmacy or fax an order

#3 Profit?

Specializes in Pedi.

Pharmacies are open on Sundays. Hospitals have on-call MDs. I'd page the on-call Endocrinologist and have them call in the script asap.

Specializes in Cardiac/Progressive Care.

For future reference, strips and lancets are available as OTC. Strips can be quite expensive though.

In some states, syringes are also available OTC in packs of 10.

Not sure where you are. Kroger has just put their brand test strips on the $4 list! The meter is not about $10. Walmart will do OTC syringes fairly in expensive.
