Hello AllNurses Universe!
I must say that my time on this forum has been an incredible journey for me. I started posting before beginning my BSN program. Now, I am a graduate as of May 4th and am preparing to take my NCLEX at the end of the month. The advice that I have received on this forum has always been invaluable. So, now I am on a new mission to find a position as an operating room nurse. I had an interview this week and I felt really positive afterwards. It was a group interview with three people, including my recruiter. She said that I did very well, but I have not had a response either way. I know I am being anxious, but being in the OR is my dream and I have prepared myself accordingly while in school. I even joined the AORN as a student member. These programs can be very competitive, but I have to believe I have a chance. So my question to all of you is.....Do you remember how long it took after your interview to get an offer for a position in the OR? It's only been a week for me, but I really would prefer to know asap so I can proceed with considering other employers/positions.

I'm in the same boat, however, I graduated May 2012 with my BSN. I am currently employed as an RN- but I want to try something very different and more challenging - and something is pulling me towards the OR. I interviewed for an OR internship last week - it was also a 3 panel interview. It's been a week for me as well; I followed up with the recruiter this week, but they are still in the process of deciding and maybe interviewing, I am assuming. The wait is the worst part! I really really want this position; I've even been looking at scrub hats, haha. So, you're definitely not the only one. :-) With dedication and motivation, we will get there.
Also, my current employment - which is not OR, but I received an official offer in 2 days not counting the weekend.
Sending prayers both of our ways! Good Luck and Stay Positive!

Hi all :)
I am a brand new RN grad (ADN) and I was just offered a position as an OR nurse in a perioperative program for one of my local hospitals. I worked tirelessly behind the scenes...contacting the nurse educator for the OR, the hiring manager...got an interview and from the interview stage to decision it took about 1 month for a decision to be made. They are now waiting for me to pass my boards (which all I am waiting on is the ATT letter to sit for the exam). So, it can definitely take some time. Some of the other places I have interviewed at STILL have not made a decision and for one hospital, they still aren't sure if they are doing the program and I have been talking to them for the better part of 6 months!!!
However, having said that, I 'checked in' with them every 1-2 weeks...touching base with the OR hiring manager, checking on where they were in the process. Re-emphasizing my enthusiasm for wanting to joint their OR team...making sure they new my name in a sea of applicants and new that I wanted this. Towards the end they were probably like "PLEASE just hire her so she will stop bugging us!" lol. :) Whatever it was, it worked and I start as soon as I pass my boards (no pressure though...haha). So, I guess that is my advice...if you haven't heard from them in 1 week, call the OR hiring manager or the person you interviewed with and just let them know you wanted to 'touch base' with them and see where they are in the process...how you are looking forward to the possibility of joining their team, etc. Couldn't hurt...if nothing else it might make them take out your resume again to see who they are talking with and remind them of your face in that 'sea of applicants.' Just a suggestion :) Good luck!!
michele742 you are right, and I am willing to bet you will be hired before long!
Best of Luck!

I do a lot of peer interviews at work and from the time we interview them to the time they are actually hired can take up to a month. Once we give our feedback, our manage has to make a decision, notify HR, then HR has to call the applicant. I would follow up but don't panic yet.
Thanks for the responses everyone. The comments have really lifted my spirits. I will make sure to touch base with those I interviewed with. A little patience and a lot of prayer should also do the trick! My next post will definitely be about my getting the job!
I said I would be back y'all when I got the job. And guess what?.....I did! I want to thank all of you in the allnurses universe for your advice, kind words, and support. It has helped me transform from beginning nursing student, to nursing graduate, and finally to operating room nurse. Now on to the NCLEX, which is my next hurdle.
Yay! Congrats! Good Luck on the NCLEX and on your journey to become a great OR nurse!
