So I'm able to take both Anatomy and Physiology 1 with Microbiology. I'm wondering if any of you have done this? My semester got a little messed up, and I have to find a way to get at least half semester to pass. It would be with the same instructor for both classes, and I'm just wondering how you all did who actually took these two in the same semester.
I'd be going to going to class four days a week:
Monday: AP 1 Lecture 9:30 - 10:45
Tuesday: Micro Lecture 4:00 - 5:15 Micro Lab 5:30 - 6:45
Wednesday: AP 1 Lecture 9:30 - 10:45 AP 1 Lab 2:30 - 5:15
Thursday: Micro Lecture 4:00 - 5:15 Micro Lab 5:30 - 6:45
Edit: Also, I'm not working, and school is all I'm doing. My husband will be taking care of the kids.
Having done it myself, I can personally confirm that your memorization skills will be flexed to the breaking point taking A&P and Micro together.
Haha, that's kinda funny, is it really that bad? My only paranoia is of the times where I'll have a test one day, to have another the next.. lol

Honestly? Yes. Although I had a pretty challenging instructor from what I understand. He definitely prepared me though. There's just no way to memorize the hundreds, if not thousands, of terms and processes that will float across your field of vision. But there's no reason that if you put in the time, you can't get an 'A'.

Eeek, sounds terrifying. I've been starting to have dreams about how scary it is. Doesn't help that I'm on probation for my financial aid this semester, so I have to do well. Ugh. I can do this though. I've already started studying AP, per the instructors request(I'm taking her for both classes). Hopefully I can keep ahead this way.
What astounds me is how much Chemistry they review in AP! Do they expect people to just forget EVERYTHING they learned in Chem? I just took Chem in summer, and am just like..wow.. lol
Don't let other students or the syllabus intimidate you. I completed A&P 1 with a final grade of 103% and in A&P 2 my final grade was 105%. I had the highest scores in both classes (taken with the same instructor). Like someone said previously, sit in the front center. Always ask questions whether it's before, during, or after class. Utilize your teacher's office hours. Email your teacher if you're stuck while studying at home. Take notes and highlight in different colors. I'm a visual learner so I had a pencil pouch I brought to class with like 10 different colored pens and 8 different colored highlighters. As far as straight anatomy, colored pencils will be your best friend. Color pictured yourself rather than print in color. This enables you to see the true anatomy of how things are interconnected. A&P is not that bad. I loved it and I miss it actually. I start micro next week but I was told micro was easier... and also don't listen to other people when they say it's easy/hard. That all depends on the person. Good luck!
I took both at the same time. Occasionally it was even to my benefit as something was used in both classes. You'll be in biology heaven!
I've actually looked at the syllabus, and they both go through some things at the same time! I was thinking that would be awesome. Or, they'll be a little behind(AP goes over cells like a week before micro). :)

Excellent advice! Pretty much described exactly what I did during all my bio classes.
Also agreed with the easy/hard statement...all the instructors are going to be different and students are obviously biased given their own abilities and tendencies. It's best to just come prepared and do your best.

It's nothing to lose sleep over. They are both fun fascinating classes! All it takes is a little time and assertiveness to soak up the material. You'll do fine. :)

Thank you so much. I'm a weirdo when it comes to things. My husband claims I underestimate my ability. Although, if I keep taking notes the way that I have been, I'll be GOOD. Plus, I'm doing all the end of chapter reviews, and section reviews. :)
Trust me, the course is tough but if you are fascinated wirh how the body works, you'll truly enjoy it. You'll learn things in A&P and be able to apply some of the material to real life, even before starting the program. You'll learn alot but it just shows you how amazing our bodies are. It's a very comprehensive class but the resources are there. It's up to you to utilize them. Don't stress so much. I was intimidated at first because I listened to everyone when they said, "Oh my that class was terrible. I got a D!" So I got scared because I'm a 4.0 student. I now realize that each student is different and it turns out I was the person everyone came to for help with the material. Ome person's weakness can be another person's strength. Make friends, exchange numbers. Have that "go to" person that you sit next to. This person can help you. You'll be ok. You got this! :)
Oh yeah, and I cannot stress enough how important it is to PRACTICE! Do the end of chapter questions and case studies even if they aren't assigned. This will be able to tell you if you understand the material. Some books have little case studies where you actually apply what you've learned. Try them. They are interesting and help tremendously. This is about being able to understand the concepts and explain them to another person, not just memorizing or "knowing". Think about it.... what good is a nurse if she knows all her stuff, but can't apply it? Hmmm. Hope this helps!

Luckily, that's where I do well! I can memorize things like crazy. :) That's how I managed to get through chemistry.. haha
