Need pre nursing encouragement

OK Ladies and Gents.... I am downright frightened. I plan to start nursing school next fall. (hip deep in Anatomy and Microbiology as we speak) I have a friend who is in the program I plan to attend. She is a pretty darn intelligent gal. Problem is .. . she is having a terrible time. I would say that she and I are well matched in the brains department. Can see where the fear is coming from? Her failing=my failing

Anyone out there who isn't near failing? I need someone to tell me that they are DOING IT AND SURVIVING...

I'm doing it and nowhere near failing. I got all As 1st semester and I've got the same going so far this semester. I am married and have 3 busy kids. I study when they're at school.

YOU CAN DO THIS! It's different than anything you've ever studied before. After the first test, you'll know how better to study for the next. It gets easier with time and experience. Have faith in yourself and be open to new experiences. It's a whole new world out there... and I'm LOVING it!

Best of luck to you, Sarah

Maybe your friend has other things on her mind, or maybe this is a different type of learning for her. :)

I graduated and I did it as a single mom, 2 kids, and working full time (I like to think I'm a brain and I managed Bs even with all that).

Don't worry til you get there!

Thanks so much Sarah.. I have three kids as well. So that makes me feel even better! When I am in the program my kids and I will be in school at the same time except for one day per week.... but I'll use that day and the couple of hours I have between when I get home and when they get home too to do my studying (and of course the late nights).

My girlfriend said the same thing about figuring out how to study. I assume you are referring to the critical thinking part that you don't use in non nursing classes.

The funny thing is a couple of months ago I was worried about being able to get A's... now after talking to my friend I am suddenly worried about passing period. Thanks again.

No, you sound like someone who is getting ready to start nursing school and doesn't know what to expect.

You were wise to ask these questions... You'll still be nervous when you start, but at least you'll know it gets easier with time. I promise, it does!

Keep us posted! Sarah

You can do it!!

I'm finding nursing school to be easier than prereqs. Here, you're not just memorizing, you're actually putting everything you've learned before nursing school all together so that you can learn about the nursing process, etc. You'll do fine! I have a B, not even close to failing.

To be honest Jen... that is what I was hoping for. I thought that the practical nature of the learning would be helpful... Thanks everyone for the encouragement.

Tell me if I am crazy! I have never set foot in a college, been an LPN since 1997. Just signed up with Rue for study guides working on nc1 first, then nc2 then all my other pre-reqs. I am terrified of the pre-reqs, nursing i can deal with, the thoughts of English comp and micro makes me nauseous!

You're not crazy, you have just glimpsed the mountain and thought, how am I ever going to do this?

Well, hon, the same way the rest of us do. One step at a time, one day at a time, one exam at a time.

A hint, though.... When I started with Excelsior, and was about where you are, I thought I needed study guides and I bought a set. I needed them less and less, and the only thing that changed was my confidence level. The more confident I got, the less I needed the study guides.

If you are doing this one exam at a time, you are smarter than I was. I bought the whole set, but only needed maybe two of the guides.

Check out the distance learning part of the nursing student forum. Also, you should join the yahoo group called "nontradnurses." They have all the notes you will need, if you trust yourself to research what you do not know or understand from the notes.

Please feel free to PM me any time. I just graduated and passed the NCLEX. It can be done. You can do it.

Good luck!
