Give____ mL
2. Dosage Available: Furoxone 50 mg per tbsp
Dosage ordered: Furoxone suspension 0.1 g po QID
Give____ mL
Happychic, what would you think the first step should be?? You need to get "what you have" in the same unit as "what you need to give"....so convert the grams into milligrams.
Do that, and we'll talk about the next step :)
Or you can say..
250 mg 750 mg
______ = ______
5 mL x mL
cross multiply to get 250x = 3750.
you divide 250x by 250 to get x alone...remember, whatever you do to one side of the equation you have to do to the other side, so you would also divide 3750 by 250.
250x 3750
____ = ____
250 250
x = 15 mL (you know it's mL because you labeled the parts of the equation.
For the second one...
50 mg 100 mg
_____ = ______
1 tbsp x tbsp
cross multiply...50x = 100
divide 50 x by 50 to get the x alone, then divide 100 by 50...x = 2 tbsp
My way *seems* longer, but it's the way we were taught, and it's the one I feel comfortable with :)
Btw...nothing is lining up right...but it's the same as 50 mg/1 tbsp = 100 mg/x tbsp...etc
