I wanted someone's opinion on taking anatomy and physiology I during a shorter semester, like winter or summer. At my school the shorter semesters run from 4-10 weeks. Would I need more time? How intense is this course?

The course is pretty tough. It is usually used to "weed out" students, from what I've heard. I know quite a few people here have taken this class over the summer and done very well. I think its just up to you. Can you memorize things quickly? Can you organize your time efficiently? Also know that summer courses are more condensed, so you probably won't get as much out of the class as you would over the spring or fall. If you decide to go for it, good luck to you!

The course was the most intense for me of all the prerequisites. That being said, it can be done if you have the study time to put in. Good luck!!

I personally would not have taken A&P 1 as a fast-track for two reasons.
1. I knew I HAD to have an A, so I didn't want to take the chance. (That's not to say I couldn't have made an A, nor is it saying that you can't. MANY people have taken it fast-track and made an A.)
2. A&P is the backbone of things you will need to know for nursing.
If this is the only way you can get it done, have the time to study, then go for it. Just remember, A&P requires A BUNCH of study time.
Good luck! :)

Whike working 10 hours a day, I have taken AP II during the summer and earned an A. In my experience with summer biology courses, professors seem a bit more lenient because of the fact that there is so much to cover in a short amount of time.
I always tried to stay ahead of the class in my reading of the text. By exposing myself ahead of time to what was to be covered in lecture, I was able to fortify my understanding and memorization via repetitive exposure to the material.
In my opinion, doing well in AP in the course of a shorter semester is definitely achieveable.
Hope this helps.

I always love the shorter semester courses, because you have less time to forget the info before a test. With A&P1 I would definatly not take it in a short semester. This class is intense. I spend a lot of time outside of class studying, and a lot of time in class trying to absorb.
Exactly. I took A&P 2 in a 5-week summer class, Micro in an 8-week class and I made A's in both of them. A&P 1 was just more important grade-wise for me. I absolutely HAD to get an A in that class.

The nursing program director at our college told me not to take any science courses during shorter semesters since things will not get covered thoroughly enough, and it might catch up with you later in nursing school.

A&P is very school specific. Someone posted earlier that an A with one proffessor would be a C with another - they hit the nail right on the head. I have taken many advanced science courses (calculus based physics, organic chem), math courses (multivariable calculus, differential equqtions, linear algerbra, calc based statistics etc), and engineering courses and I am finding the time I currently have to spend with A&P 1, to get an A, is greater than the time I spent with any of those. While it is possible to do well in a shortened summer session, I would hate to have to take A&P 1 with a tough proffessor in that format.
