NICUfuture?
1 Post
I have a few questions regarding becoming an R.N. in the NICU. 1. Do you go through more in school if you want to work in the NICU? 2. Can I have an MSN and still work in the NICU for somewhere like OU Children's Hospital? Can someone please give me as much information as possible on this? I am going to enroll in Cameron University, and graduate from OU Nursing program. I just want to go all the way in school by going as long as I can, but having had a premature child, the NICU is the only place for me.

Your post has been moved to the NICU Nursing forum to attract replies from people who are knowledgeable about the NICU. Good luck to you!

I can't speak to your OU questions, but no extra education is needed for the NICU. Many of us have a simple ADN and work as RNs in a NICU.

I have a two year degree and had never seen a premature baby when I started at our level 3 ICN--but we have a great 12 week training course (for all nurses, not just new grads) who are hired. I felt like I had never been in nursing school before, but I knew I belonged with the babies. It was scary and intense and I learned a lot very quickly.
