Need Lawyer for Texas BON.

Published

I was a travel nurse who just got notice by Texas BON of investigation. I need a Lawyer that won't break the bank. I'm not going to try and handle this myself. I've researched and concluded guilty or not guilty, I need help. My home state is Mississippi. I have no clue how all this will work or how long investigations take. Any advice is welcomed.

My investigation was about a year

I think mine was about 9 months. But every state and BON is/are not the same.

You said your home state is Mississippi, but Texas is where the crime occurred. I am not sure if these 2 states accept the same, licensing-wise. I think most contracts/alternate to discipline programs require you to notify all other states in which you have /hold a license. Even if by some off chance that Mississippi is not notified by either you or program, when renewal time comes around, you are required to report any criminal activity, probationary or actions taken against license, etc. And then if caught lying to board, well, that'd be pretty bad...

Have you told TX BON that you have/are soon retaining a attorney for this issue? All future correspondence between you and BON should be done through the attorney.

(forgive me, I'm sort of assuming you're admitting guilt, since you don't go into details regarding specific instances. Sorry, if that is not correct.

And of course, Lawyer up ASAP and you've got that ball rolling. Do you know of any folks/colleagues that required legal representation, under 'administrative' law. It never hurts to get a quick phone consult to determine if said attorney is proficient with this type of case.

You found a great group here, with lots of information and support to share.

I'm not working right now. I am just trying to figure out exactly what happens. I assume since it's a compact state that they talk to each other. I'm not trying to make it worse by skirting state to state. I was a traveler and had been for over a year. As far as guilt or innocence goes, I accept responsibility for what I did not do correctly.

I spoke to a Texas lawyer and sent a copy of my letter for consultation as I live in Mississippi and not Texas. I just have no clue how Texas handles things. I've heard plenty of Mississippi BON stories. I guess each case is individual. I've also heard they make their mind up before even hearing from you or your lawyer in this case. I guess, mistake or not, a violation is a violation.

1. Definitely get a lawyer. Even if you do have to crack open the piggy bank. Follow their advice. Do not attempt to communicate on your own with the Texas BON--either do it through your attorney or have said attorney review any communication you send before you send it.

2. Do not discuss/share details about what happened anywhere on social media or the internet, including here. Things you post online can be used against you, and something you post and then delete can actually live on, thanks to cut & paste, screen caps, caching, forwarding, etc. We'll provide support and encouragement regardless of how vague you have to be.

Best of luck.

Have you got a lawyer? My aunt, who resides in Paris also faced the similar issue. She was also advised to hire a local lawyer asap. She has to research a lot to find a suitable lawyer for her case. Hope you also get rid of this issue fast!
