I have several residents that get labs q6 mth, q3mth, and random. We are getting tons of duplicate labs on the residents. How can i track these more efficiently than i already am. Currently i have a log made out for the year my month but there are still many, many slipping by and duplicates are being ordered and done.
I would love to have a excel sheet of some sort to help track, and im sure there are other facilitys with the same type of issue that have a resolution.
thanks

Are those routine labs put on the monthly re orders? If so, every month when they are doing change over, they should pick this up and double check that they are scheduled.
What about a sheet in front of the lab book that lists these labs and the dates they are due.

Can you do reoccuring labs on the 15th of every month, every 3 months labs Jan, Apr, July, Oct 15th...all 6 months lab on Jan 15th and July 15th, etc.
Take it to Q.A. meeting and make it a facility policy. Inform MD's as they order these labs that they should order to be done "tomorrow and then every 3 months per facility routine lab schedule". We have even started to encourage MD's to order all INR's done routinely to be ordered on Tuesdays only with the exception of someone with unstable levels that require more frequent labs.
It could save you alot of headaches with tracking. Make a list on all monthly lists, a list with all q3 months labs, list with all q6 months labs & check it all off one day/month. Does this make sense or am I talking in circles
