Need help, STAT!!

I was asked by my director to help interview candidates for a new patient care specialist. This position is essentially an educator for the staff and a resource that we can use for help if we need. it. They will also be responsible for continuing education. I am pretty new to the unit, so I think the director wanted my perspective during the interview.

Does anyone have any suggestions about what kind of questions I can ask during the interview? It's a post open heart/thoracic unit.

Thanks!

p.s. the interview is tomorrow.

They will probably have a resume and or CV which lists their experience and training, but also ask for examples of training they have done, organized.

We do group interviews with new candidates for positions. The questions are already printed out for you possibly. They will give you a list of questions relavant to the position and you read the question to the candidate.

I do however feel these scripts for interview questions need to be honed to the education level of some. We use the same list of questions for CNA, LPN and RN. It just doesnt seem fair because some of the CNAs are young inexpeienced and sometimes arent understanding the questions.

They did give me some examples, but also said I could ask anything I want.

Is there a specific scenario you could inquire about to see how the candidate would handle the situation? Also, asking about the type of personality they have the most difficulty working with, what they have done in the past as far as conflict resolution. I hate interviews and glad I don't have to worry about them......at least for now!

Ask them to tell you about an emergancy situation (patient nurse related) they were in what happened, how they delt with the problem and if there was anything they could of done better to handle the situation.
