Need Help with RN options

Well basically to make a long story short. Right out of high school i went to college and began taking my nursing pre reqs. I did not know about how impacted the programs were out here and just did enough to cruise by. Needless to say i ended up repeating 2 sciences classes and got all Cs. I found myself rejected from just about every RN program i applied to. Realizing the error of my ways i went to an LVN school and really began to buckle down. Started taking school seriously and ill be done in about a month with honors. However the problem still remains that my pre req grades are complete crap. At all cost i want to avoid Private RN programs liek WestCoast that cost 60k unless i can find one at about half the cost. My question to you guys on the forums is what should i do at this point. should i give up all hopes of going to a community college program? should i just accept my faith and realize private school route is hte only route for me? if so are their any other affordable private schools out there? any information would greatly be appreciated. thanks

you can try to look for schools not only in your area, but also outside of Ca if you don't mind to relocate because most Ca's nursing programs are impacted. If you want to stay in CA, the only option is retaking the pre-reqs. There are schools in other states that have lvn-rn without pre-reqs requirements and no waiting list.

For private schools, considering the cost of the program, Are you able to borrow a loan?

Hi, if you did well in your LVN program then I don't thi nk you'l have much to worry about in applying to an LVN-ADN bridge program. Like you I looked into going the private school LVN, followed by LVN-ADN Bridge route to an RN. And my understanding is that bridge programs will weigh their decision mostly on your LVN grades (since they represent your most recent work and are the best predictor of your likelihood to succeed in an ADN program).

Also, many LVN-ADN bridge programs use LVNs to fill in the second year class seats they lost from first year ADN wash-outs. So you won't be applying with the thousands of first year candidates. The applicant pool is much smaller for LVN-ADN bridge programs. Good Luck :)
