Need help preparing for the HESI A2 Exam...

I have purchased the study guide by Morrison Media - HESI A2 Secrets. I have read through the Study Guide and looked over the practice tests. I am concerned about the content and exactly how much of it will be on the test. I am planning to take the Hesi A2 Exam prior to October 1 (the deadline to apply for the Spring 2008 - Nursing Program). I am truly at a disadvantage, though. I have not attended school for approximately 14 years; my major at that time was accounting/business. Needless to say, I have not taken several of the courses needed to prepare for this adventure. I am currently scheduled to begin Chemistry I and Human Physiology in the middle of August. Therefore, I will have only been exposed to these two courses for approx. one month prior to taking the HESI exam. I have, of course, taken College Algebra and English I & II - the only two courses that appear to be beneficial. I could really use any information regarding the test, recommended study guides/books, study helps, etc. Thank you, in advance, for any HELP you can provide. :lol2:

Hello! I just took the HESI A2 exam today. My test consisted of Math, Reading Comprehension, Grammar, and Vocabulary. I studied the HESI Admissions Assessment study guide exclusively and it was helpful. I practiced the Math questions because it had been so long since I had used fractions, ratio's, etc. On the test, there was some basic addition and subtraction as well as addition, subtraction, mult, and division of fractions, percentage questions, conversions for pints & gallons, and some military time conversion questions. The practice questions helped me and I got a 92 on this portion.

The grammar was fairly easy. It had questions where you have to pinpoint what word or phrase is not a correct use of grammar (e.g. I were going to call you this afternoon). As you can see, the "were" is the grammatical error. I got a 94 on this portion.

As for the vocabulary, there were some general words like "allude" and "persecute" on the test, but then there were quite a few medical words I was not familiar with and they were not in the study guide. For instance, one of the questions asked what the medical term for a newborns "soft spot" is. I took a guess and got it right, but there were quite a few questions like that and I had no clue so I had to guess and unfortunately got an 84 on that portion of the test.

The Reading Comprehension was a little bit difficult, at least for me it was. There were about 5-6 different passages w/ about 2-3 paragraphs in each passage. Some of the questions just seemd tricky. BTW, all of the questions are multiple choice. For the Reading Comp questions that had me stumped, I tried to narrow it down to the two answers that made the most sense and pick the best one out of the two. Unfortunataly I got an 87 on that portion.

Overall I got an 89.3 on the test, which is ok, but I was really aiming for a 90 or above. I know the nursing program I am getting into has a selection commitee that takes the Hesi scores very seriously when considering who gets accepted into the program. So I hope and 89 isn't too bad in their eyes.

My best advice is to brush up on your math and english. As for the medical terms in the vocabulary section, you may have a leg up since you have taken a physiology class. Good luck to you!

Melvolden, did you take the Hesi A2 yet? I am going to take it in December and all I want to know is this: does the science section of the Hesi Study Guide give you enough direction for studying, or is there a lot of stuff on the test that isn't covered in the Study Guide? I know the Study Guide isn't a good study instrument in and of itself, but what I want to know is, did it point you in the right direction(s) for Biology and Chem? (I don't have to take the Hesi A2 A&P section.) Many thanks!!

Hi, I too am taking the Hesi Entrance Exam. Bought the Hesi study guide but heard a lot of bad reviews about it- basically, it didn't cover a lot of the information that is needed to take the test.

If ANYONE has a Hesi practice test or study guide or any recommendations on preparing for the exam ...I would be so appreciative if you can send it to me or let me know where to get one.

I actually was on here earlier for a few hours reading through all the posts. Some of the posts that seemed to be most helpful to other people who are in the same situation (having to take the Hesi test) had a study guide that was very beneficial to their studying for this exam. The only problem is the link provided on the posts is expired.

I already purchased another study guide, but I was hoping for that study guide that one of the other girls had. I guess I will just continue studying what I have so far and wait to hear something from someone else.

If anyone have input for study guide esp in vocabulary please let me know. I took the test 3 weeks ago and I did bad on vocabulary.

This is the study guide I used:

But because it's out of print, it's a bit pricey, even used. I did find the vocabulary in it perfectly fine for taking the HESI; my composite score was over 97%. I can't speak to the newer edition of the guide.

You might try posting a message in the student nursing forum, asking if anyone has that edition to sell or lend. (I told mine as soon as I was done with it.)

I would like to know some details that were included in the exam, like: the vocab words from the study guide ware in the exam too, how hard the grammar section was and how long the reading passages were and if it were confusing, also in the conversions if you remember some ?
