Need help on how to prepare for then nclex rn. Failed first time I took the test.

Published

I do not know how to prepare for the nclex rn this time around. I took the Live KAPLAN course, and their online ?'s, I even paid for the online access a second time before taking the nclex the first time. I tried answering nclex questions most of the time and I read some chapters out of the KAPLAN course book. I'm not sure if the amount of time (Five months from Grad date -12/2007) that I had to let go by before taking the exam had a big impact on the end result or not. Although, I did have to leave the country for a couple of months on and off, due to highly important personal matters. Nonetheless, I am terrified to take the test again, and I am running in circles trying to figure out what book to study from, or if I should try another nclex prep course. It will almost be a year since I graduated, and four months since I took the exam, and all I know is that I want to be an RN, I worked wholeheartedly to become a nurse, and I just can't believe that this TEST is what is holding me back. It is hard when your family and children ask you why you are not working yet, and I do not want to fail them a second time around... I noticed on this website that Suzanne's Plan is highly suggested, however you must have 15+ PM's and I am new to this site. Please know that any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thank You! :typing

PolarBear44 we have similar feeling regarding the nclex rn exam too, it's like i don't know how to face this exam and it seems i am terrified too, it's going to be my 2nd time to take the exam too, i will follow suzannes plan with lots of prayers and keep on surfing here in allnurses.com about nclex.

Know what kind of study plan is the best for you. It's hard to follow other's study plan if you don't feel that you can be able to stick on it. If ever you feel that it will help you and you can be able to do it 100% then maybe it is the one you are looking for. In preparing for my Nclex exam, I have my own study plan: I went to a review class here in our country, study different nclex books and answered lots of sample nclex questions. I make sure that I was able to follow it 100%. Good luck. I know you can do it. Just add some prayers on your daily review. God bless!

My program uses only the Saunder's book and no other. No reason to go and purchase any other book.

Make sure that you contact Kaplan to get a refund on your money provided that you trained in the US. They guarantee their program and state that they will return your money if you do not pass.

You need to complete the first tip as it is posted, and then contact me. you have plenty of time to get 15 legitimate posts in during the time that you are preparing with the first tip.

Best of luck to you.

Suzanne You are so kind and generous, I'm glad to know that there are still people who really do care. :rcgtku:

focusnclex - It's a horrible feeling I know, but you are right with prayer and Suzzane's plan we will succeed. Best of luck to you. :rcgtku:

Want to start the suzzanne plan also, cant wait.

Let me first agree with how you are feeling. I took the exam for the first time last month and failed on 263 questions. Just recently I found out that I am the only one of my 25 friends from school who failed. I feel ashamed, embarrassed, and incredibly disappointed in myself! I'm so worried about taking the exam the second time partly because I don't know where or how to begin studying for the exam again! I feel overwhelmed with the amount of information to review. I felt, and still feel an information overload for the exam! I'm hoping Suzanne's plan will help me organize myself to be efficient and effective when I study. My friends keep telling me that confidence is key to passing this exam. Confidence may be the key to relieving anxiety as well. Gaining confidence is one thing that I will be working on before I take the exam again. Good luck!

Took my boards back in july and til now I too am hesitant about taking the boards. However, I continue to study whenever and wherever I go. I do think it's important for you to find out what study plan works best for you and which one you can commit to. Sure many of us have different ways of studying, but it's up to you.

Sure until now I'm alittle disappointed in myself, but I post lots of encouraging words on my wall, in my purse, wallet and what have you to continue my quest for getting my RN. It helps tremendously, but what I don't forget is to practice questions and definitely reading up on my chosen books for clarification and rationales.

Just don't give up! NURSES DONT GIVE UP!!!

:wink2: hi suzanne. i took my cgfns (sept 17) and nclex-rn exam (sept 26). i failed both. i used the kaplan strategies book and the saunder's compre and i don't understand why i still failed......do you think your plan will still work for me??? right now i am in "paralysis"...lol i don't know what will work for me...i was considering on enroling at kaplan but some people said that they wasted their money on that program.......do you think i failed the exams even if i used the saunders book because of the wrong stategy i did in using it? i only read it once. i did not read the cardiac chapter and the kidney chapter coz i was so exhausted and overwhelmed already... i answered all the post test of the chapters i read after every chapter and read every rationale. then i randomly answered the 100's question on the random mode....suzzane do you think how i used my saunders compre book made me fail coz of the wrong strategy i did in using it......do you think your plan will work for a person like me.....i failed my 1st attempt and will take the 2nd..but i felt hurt and traumatized failing the 1st. i hope i will not fail the 2nd ........pls reply me....

btw would you believe i studied for 7 months and still failed.....but all i did were the ones i have written above....i am a slow reader...i can only read 1chapter/day..pls reply me suzzanne and help.

If you look at her frist tip it is a review and you do not read the book, just do the quizzes and if you get less than 75% on the quiz then read the chapter. Her plan is good but you do need to follow and complete the first tip first. I suggest a good read in the 2 stickies she has done
