Need Help to Pass NCLEX in June

Published

Hello, I'm in my last semester in nursing school and I'm preparing for the NCLEX in June.

My dilemma: I tend to struggle to critically think at times. For example, on my ATI practice exams I will miss a questions like " A patient is one day post-op from _______. What discharge teaching does the nurse need to include before the patient goes home?"

I'll get it wrong because I feel like I choose the right answer, but the correct answer rationale connects the patients surgery to an underlying risk factor that I forget to think about.

I'm using my Saunders book, UWorld, and Hurst to study. I'm just extremely discouraged. I'm doing good with UWorld and Hurst, but I personally can't stand ATI with my learning style.

I'm so scared I will fail the NCLEX :,( ...... Any advice or study tips? I'm an average B student in school but I had to WORK my butt off

I used Uworld, along with the live Hurst review that our class paid for. I loved Hurst for the review of the systems. Uworld made me comfortable answering questions, and brushing me up on facts I needed to remember. Keep doing those questions. Do them a lot. The more you see something, the more it sticks.

The NCLEX is a safety test. It is based on you being a safe nurse. I swear, it wasn't bad at all. My HESI questions were harder than the NCLEX. I cried during the test because I was anxious...and at 75, I cried because it cut off and I was certain I failed. LOL... I passed. I was a hot mess. Half the battle is your nerves. Get them under control. ?

Use your nurse brain. Start with keeping the patient alive. That is your job. If you can only pick one thing to do, to keep them alive, pick it. ABC's are important. Airway, Breathing, circulation... do those. Then move to Maslow. Do they need food? Shelter? Just think safety. Now, I had some random questions about teaching...they were SATA. Remember that SATA's are designed to group like things together. So, which things don't belong. That is how I got through mine. So, lungs, O2, thickening liquids...those things go together. If insulin was there, I'd leave it out. Doesn't "go" with the others.

You really will be okay. Promise. Just keep studying and answering questions. Uworld is identical to the test itself, screen wise. It looks the same, which puts you at ease. Think positive.

@magnoliablush Thank you so much! ? I'm doing everything I need as far as preparing. I just need to be confident in myself
