Need help as homehealth office rn

Published

I have less than 1 year RN experience. Now I work in a small home health company. We have about 70 active patients. I am the only RN actually working there full time. I am doing OASIS coding, 485, QA, writing MD orders and patient coordination sometimes. I have a LVN new grad helping to type MD orders. I never see a DON. There is no experienced RN who I can look for help. Sometimes, I am kind of scared because I don't really know too many regulations about home health. Is this a normal situation or I will put my license in danger? The administrator always complain that they are losing money, who is the owner's wife. So they do not want to hire nurses with more experiences.

Do the best you can and make a reasonable effort to learn. But if I were you, I would look for another job. This one does not seem too stable. If nothing else, you can ask questions here as long as you are vague in specifics. There are a lot of knowledgeable nurses who post here who would be glad to assist. Start by looking at the resources provided in the stickies at the top of the forum.

Oh, hell! RUN!!!!! You should be more than "sometimes kinda scared." They're losing money because they don't have the right, experienced staff to help them make money. Not only that, but if you're not extremely familiar with rules and regs, you could be commiting fraudulent practices without even knowing it. Get out now!

Get online and look up Federal Register for Conditions of Participation for Home Health. You must know something about the decisions you are making. You could find yourself in the middle of a Federal problem.
