I am filling out an application for a facility and on the application it says...."brief description of duties". Well, I am not quite sure what to put. I have just finished orientation and haven't really done a whole lot on my own.
I would think to put down passing of oral, IV, IM, SQ meds; technical procedures, charting, care plans...that sort of thing. Would there be a more professional way of wording this?
Thanks for any input on this. I hate filling out applications.

I hate filling out applications too, you are never quite sure what they are looking for. But, I would simply put down that you provide and oversee nursing care for patients including administring medication (PO,IV,IM,SQ), preforming treatments (maybe list type of tx- like wound care?), identifying key problems, setting goals, and charting the patient's progress. I find the best thing with filling out applications is to just be straightforwared and to the point- don't overthink your answers. I don't know if this helps, but good luck and I hope you get the job!

I would use terminology you see on your job description! Pt assessments, planning, intervention, evaluation, supervision of ancillary staff, provide safety -- in other words, B.S.!

and how about "plus any other low level scut work that is put on the nurses 'cause they don't want to pay anyone else to do it."
JUST KIDDING!
LOL...P_RN!!
Thanks for the tips guys. I plan on putting it to good use. I hope to get this job too!!

I am not sure if I am confused or you are confused.
On job applications when it ask for a discription of job duties it is not asking your the duties of the job that you are applying for.
It usually ask this question where you list past employment. It wants to know the duties you performed on that job.
It looks from your signature "New RN" that this is your first nursing job. IF that is the case then you cannot list the duties of an RN. You list those things you did on you past job.
If indeed they are clearly talking about the job you are applying for then ASK them for a copy of the job description. You are entitled to it. Then summerize the most important tasks listed on it.
Agnus. You are right...The application is in regards to past work history. I am currently employed as an RN now just finishing orientation at the hospital I am at. I am looking for another job because after orientation all I have been guaranteed is a float on-call position. I need full time hours, or at least part time. I found out about the float on-call position more than half way through my orientation. I never thought to ask for a job description. That is something that I will be asking for.
