Can you go to your school library and ask the librarian for assistance in finding appropriate resources?
I'm afraid she will not allow anything from the school library either.
AFA nursing journals, I think those fall under the 'magazine' category in her eyes:(

Ask your instructor what she will allow. Throw it back into her court and see what she has in mind.
You could see if your city/county health department has info. That would include calling the department that is responsible for wells, as e. coli is a common contaminant that they test for. If these folks can't help you, they might be able to make referrals.
Your instructor sounds like a peach.

That's a little crazy. Then what are you suppose to use if you have no clue about E.Coli? I would ask the teacher what she would allow, then get to work on the paper.
Good Luck.

How in-depth does your research need to be? Can the information be found in your textbook?

A agree...start with asking what is acceptable........make it look like you do want to follow his/her guidelines but need to have a bit more info to keep within those.
See if you can get info by calling your local health department....there is where I would start.
Funny my 7 year old son just a few days ago came home with a paper and they are learning about "germs" and different kinds of bacteria and how there are good and bad forms of E-Coli. Gosh I don't remember learning that stuff in 2nd grade! Shoot I don't think it was at least until high school if not college!!!! lol
See if you can call the CDC or a local (RD)registered dietician to learn the sources, etc. they have to know that stuff....
Good luck........God I hated Micro!! Had a horrible teacher too!!!

Perhaps she means no " popular press" magazines such as Time, Newsweek, etc.
I don't understand why she would disallow professional journals.

What did your instructor tell you to use? Was it the scholarly literature? It may be that he/she wants you to actually go to the library and learn to use it to search the scholarly journals and texts.
Another possibility is that the instructor wants you to do a report based on current community data -- from places like the Health Department.
It sounds to me as if you don't fully understand your assignment. You'll need to communicate with your instructor to get that clarified.
Thanks, so much, ladies:)
I just sent her an email doing exactly that; asking what "is" and "isn't" acceptable.
Oh, God! I cannot Wait for this class to be over and yes, she is a peach~
