Hi all, could use some suggestions here. I am sure most, if not all of us, are familiar with that kind of nurse/coworker. The situation, without all the boring details, is that there is a nurse on the day shift (I work eves) that has made it obvious that she doesnt like me. I am not the only nurse that is experiencing this, there is another who is on her "list." Bottom line, she can make for a terrible night, even if my interaction with her is only for 1/2 hour!!
I am usually a "roll with it" kind of gal, but I have just reached my breaking point w/ this person. Unfair is unfair, and I am sick of it.
Thanks for any help.

I have nothing positive to offer. I have worked with more than one of this type person over the years and the only relief was when I got away from it, either they left or I did. Some of them must be borderline personality types, or have some other kind of problem. It doesn't help to try and win them over, that doesn't work.

Similar situation happened to me.........
For some reason, a particular nurse I work with had SUCH an attitude with me. I had no Idea why because I hardly worked with her. Anyway she snapped at me one night and It really got too me. I approached her later an told her I would like to talk to her.
She complied, we discussed, and it turned out that our personalities clashed...she felt intimidated by me because I am very outspoken, and too her that was rude (whatever that means)
I am a "body language" type girl, ie. I move my hands when i talk and she figured I was giving her attitude...which I wasnt, so in turn she would give me a hard time....
we talked it out, she chilled out, all is well..........
So my advice to you is....talk it out! No use in stressing, as a nurse, Im sure you have enough to stress out about....:chuckle

What i did when i worked with someone who flat out said they didn't like me, i replied "your personal opinion of me doesn't matter, however our ability to work together for the common goal, that being the health and comfort of the patients, does, and let's keep it that way."
Problem solved. Maybe that's an idea to try?

I can relate!! We have a supervisor that just loves to keep everyone stirred up. I always think of the best come back after the fact. The other day we were oncw again working 2 people below our "master plan", being the charge nurse, I wrote a variance report on it. This supervisor, not only picked it up from my things and read it, but called me on it saying that I shouln't report things like that, If we aren't willing to pick upthe "slack", we will blow our budget hiring agency help. By the way, she hadn't offer to do any patient care. I argued w/her briefly and then went on about my business. Afterward, I thought maybe I should have reported her for harassment. I had several witnesses. She drives everyone nuts.

I had a (very unprofessional) nurse leader once who just took a real dislike to me, talked about me behind my back to other staff, and kept me off the good assignments. I finally got p.o.'d and confronted her. I can't say that she loved me from then on, but she had more respect for me, and we ended up getting along really well eventually.
Thank you all for taking the time to share your experiences with me ~ made me feel not so alone in this.
I have tried to confront this person, and she simply raised her voice while speaking DOWN to me in the middle of the nurses station. Ah well, hope that made her feel good
Some people are just full of mean ~ and for no reason ~ that is the kicker!
Thank you again :)

There is one nurse in particular on the floor where I work as a student who never seems to respect or pay attention to anyone with fewer than 15 years experience, especially a student. She always refuses help with patient care, no matter how busy she is and how available I am, then she will complain to the Nurse Manager about how I can be idle at times during my shift.
I asked her a question one time about a patient situation, which she responded to rather condescendinly, I thought. However, since then, she has at least been saying hi when I see her, rather than just ignoring me.
I bet if I asked her if I could borrow her nurses cap for my wife to get her grad pictures done she would even aske me how things were going at work:roll
