Hi, I need to ask a charge nurse what his/her expectations are for a new graduate, also, what does your facility expect. Thanks for your help with this assignment!

I would expect you to have the knowledge, but not the experience. I would expect that you are aware of how to do a physical assessment. I would expect that you ask lots and lots of questions and are willing to learn. I would expect that you be proactive, tell us what you need, where your weaknesses lie, to challenge yourself.

I would not expect to know how to handle patients alone, without preceptorship, without mentoring and guidance.

I don't expect you to be fully confident and organized for a full year. I would expect there are going to be times when you are stressed and overwhelmed and will help you to get through it.

Hey tweety, I am a 3rd semester LVN student, and it was reassuring for me to read your response. I will be graduating in June/05, and one of my biggest worries is what would be expected from me once I start working. I sure hope I end up having a charge nurse that shares your point of view, after all we all start from the beginning. Thanks.
