Need some advise about going back to hospital

Published

Help, I need some advise. I am a relatively new LVN. Started working at one of only 2 hospitals in my town almost 2 years ago. When I first started, I told the nursing director that I wanted to work 12 hour shifts. Well, when I started working the floor after general nurse orientation, I was told I would be working 8 hours shifts 3-11. I did that for awhile and then when a 12 hour shift came available, I started that. That kicked my butt, I'm in my forties and had no idea I would require so much sleep. Anyway, went back to 8 hour shifts. The nursing director made the comment to me that I was too picky and she couldn't seem to satisy me. I then transferred to another floor, not knowing that the 2 directors had discussed how picky and hard to please that I was. I was there for 6 months when another job opportunity opened up for me. I changed my status from full time to prn. Then the floor that I was working on closed down. I had then been working at the new job for about a month when I realized I really missed the hospital. I reapplied. I was offered a job, the only opening at that time on a floor that has a bad reputation, but I was desperate and took it. After 1 week, I ended up in the ER with a BP of 204/149. I had called in within correct time period. The doctor took me off work for 3 days. When I called back to make sure I was on the schedule, I was told I needed to talk to the director before I could come back. I went in to talk with her, she jumped me with "I would have never hired you if I had known you were so picky and hard to please." I then went to human resources and told them what had happened and what was the status of my job. A few days later, I received a call back that it was probably best if I didn't come back. I was told that my employee record would show that I had resigned and would be eligible for rehire. They told me to reapply in a few months and it should be no problem. Well, apparently there is because I reapplied 6 months later and no one will even interview me. I also applied at the other hospital in town and have recieved no call for an interview. I have been working home health and assisted living, but I miss the hospital SO MUCH. I have even seen my original boss and she told me she'd get in touch with me if anything came open because she knew I was a good nurse and all the employees had always said good things about me. She said she understood I was just having a hard time right out of school.

But I just can't get back into that hospital. I miss it so much and I am losing my skills. Anyone have any advise????? I would appreciate it. :crying2:

Maybe I missed something here, but is there a reason you cannot apply at a different hospital?

I would follow up with a call to the second hospital, or walk in with a completed application and resume, and ask how long it usually takes for them to get in touch. Are you applying for a posted positon, or just casual?

I mean, if you got a job in homehealth, you must have got decent references.

I did apply at the only other hospital in my town, haven't had a call for an interview.

Perhaps you can follow up at the other hospital with a call to HR? I wish you luck!
