Need your advise on first semester

Published

Hi everyone

I'm starting pre-nursing next semester at Valencia community college in Orlando. My goal is Valencia-UCF concurrent program.

For the first semester I'm taking:

college algebra

general biology

english composition1

student life skills

any advice on this schedule?

should I take general psychology instead of algebra?

my advisor suggested me not to take A&P 1 and 2 and micro together

That would be...difficult. :) Although I've heard of people taking both A&Ps together, I really wonder how that would work!

oh I guess I wasn't clear :) my adviser suggested me NOT to take those courses together

You are right of course taking them together is so hard

Hi again

I talked to another adviser today and she told me English comp is not a prerequisite for General bio

so maybe I can skip comp and take:

General psychology

General bio

students life skills

College algebra

does this schedule seem good?

What degree are you going for? I'm aiming for a BSN and English Comp I and II are required for my degree, so it's worth taking.

Psychology was a really fun class though - I enjoyed it a lot.

No, I knew what you meant! I was just agreeing that it would be nuts! :)

yes you are right I meant take maths and bios first and take other courses later

Just curios

what was your first and second semester schedule?

Just curios

what was your first and second semester schedule?

My first semester in school was a very long time ago (about 18 years now), and I didn't know what I wanted to be when I grew up yet.

Previous classes that applied to my degree.

English Comp I

US History I

English Comp II

This was last fall, after I had made up my mind. I did decide to take some remedial math, because I really needed a refresher

Semester 1

Elementary Algebra

Intermediate Algebra

US History II

Lifespan Growth and Dev

Semester 2

Sociology

College Algebra

Chem I

Texas History

I'm currently in Semester 3

A&P I

Speech

Statistics

Nutrition

Semester 4

A&P II

Micro

Organic Chem

Government

Semester 5

World Religions

Architecture

Government II

Med Terminology

I'm going for two degrees though - an Associates of Science, and then a Bachelor's of Science in Nursing, so there's a few extra classes in there, so an additional semester.

I laid out all the courses I needed for both degrees and then the prerequisites for each, and created my schedule.

Thank you so much

Looks like a reasonable schedule. Did your advisor give you a plan of study for the entire program? I ask because English could very well be a prerequisite to the classes you want next semester. It is a common prerequisite, and if you are required to do a communication class before your nursing courses I wouldn't postpone the class for too long. Make sure everything you are taking is a degree requirement for your program.

he just gave ma a plan for spring and summer!

spring:

comp 1

college algebra

student life skills

General bio

summer:

A&P 1

statistics

humanities

I'm not a native English speaker and it takes a lot of time and effort to get an A in English composition course

so I think it's better if I take it later when I don't have any maths or bios left

I've heard English composition is very hard!
