Need your advice please..co filipino

Hi I am currently residing here in illinois as immigrant and going for the ad nursing program next spring, which will start january of 2010, at the same time i sent my credentials in the philipipines for evaluation and since i am a graduate of a bachelors degree in the phi. almost all of my classes was credited and 3 schools told me i can take their bs nursing program for only 2 years, those schools were lanting college, st. rita college, and emilio aguinaldo college and they told me i have to decide till june of 2010 because new curriculum will be implemented soon. now i need your advice guys, if ever i finished my nursing in the phi. will i still seat for the local board, take english exam, and cg?. because if i will take my adn here in ill. i will only take nclex. but I am considering the finances here, i am pretty sure I can save a lot if i go back home, but..i have a family here to think too...oh pls help me decide...

If you do your nurse training outside the US, doesn't matter if you are a US immigrant or citizen you have to meet the state requirements as a foreign trained nurse. If the state requires a local exam then if you can sit it then you will need to do it. Expect a wait of approx 4-8 months (depending on state) before you receive eligibility to sit NCLEX. If the state requires you to sit the CGFNS exam (only a handful now require it) then you may have to still sit the CGFNS exam.

You also need to make sure that the state will accept your transcripts and training

I would suggest you check out your state board of nursing website and see what requirements are required

The money you might save by returning to the Philippines for school will most assuredly be offset by the hassle and waiting involved in meeting the requirements for a foreign trained nurse. I would advise you to take the US program to save yourself time and trouble in the long run. You could conceivably be working as an RN long before the process is complete to go from foreign trained RN student to US licensed RN. Good luck.

The good news is that you have been accepted in the ADN ( which is hard to get into). Have you applied to any BSN programs for people who have a BA/BS? There is also the direct entry MSN option in the USA.

Worse case scenario, start the ADN here and if you don't like it you could go to the Philippines. You have choices with is also a good thing.

thanks to your advices..i really wanted to go here for my adn, especially after the hardships ive been through with my prereqs. and the entrance exam..but I am also considering the finances since i was not approved for financial aid bec. of my bachelors degree and our tuition fee increase to 150% (whooah)..and next year 2010 ched will implement the new curriculum for nursing school in the phi. but the 3 schools told me i will still be under the old curriculum if i will enroll next summer of 2010, after that all the students will be under the new curriculum. well I think I need to pray hard for my decision..wish me luck. :redpinkhe

Then go the ADN route if you don't qualify for financial aid. After you get your ADN you can directly apply to the MSN program and you can apply for financial aid because you're going for a higher degree than you already have. Saving money isn't always the answer, sometimes your time and efforts are worth more. Good Luck!
