I just started a position in the OR of a large hospital the beginning of Dec. I recently found out that my hubby and I will be relocating over the summer. Next week begins a new schedule in which I am full-time. I will need to go PT or maybe even PRN as of next schedule. My question is when should I talk to manager about making this change. It has to be done since I have so much going on as of May/June. I know how long it takes to train OR nurses and also know there are others planning on being out around that time. I just don't want to be put on next schedule FT and have them scramble. Please help - I feel so awful and stressed while at work because I feel like I am hiding stuff!

Just let them know ASAP. Nothing can be gained by putting it off.

Are you already experienced or are you still in a very basic orientation? So what I'm asking is are you running a room on your own?
I am quite experienced - they gave me a few weeks orientation basically so I could understand the different equipment, where stuff is and to get to know some of the many docs. I have worked in the OR for sometime - just at a much smaller facility. I have been in my own room pretty much since the 2nd month there. I think that after some opinions - I may just wait and give notice and see what transpires at that time. I am thinking they may work with me to get some of my shifts covered. They are bringing more people on board soon anyway.

Its most professional and courteous to let your manager know that there has been a change in your family's plans (husbands job move) and that it will affect your employment. Most managers just prefer early notice and honesty up front.
