I have an interview at the hospital tomorrow for a PCA position. The problem is the roads around here are a sheet of ice. This is the south, so we don't get out much in this kind of weather. So my question is...should I try to make it for this interview since I would have to be there regardless of weather if it were my job, or just call to see if I can reschedule? Just wondering....

I might would try get in touch with my contact for the interview and ask if they have time to perform the interview given the current circumstances. Say something like you understand things are probably hectic right now and just want to be considerate but also inform them that if they have the time, so do you.

I am in South Carolina and we got a good bit today....Our hospital sent home all "non essential" employees. Managers and clinical staff all were expected to report but not everyone who was not essential. I would think it would be OK to call and re-schedule. Just do so in a timely manner and be open to re-arranging your schedule for the next scheduled time!

i would go. i'm in tennessee and all the schools are closed around here. the hospitals are not. i think if you don't show up, they'll take that as you won't show up if they were to employee you. i guess it depends on if you really need/want the job.

I would call earlier in the morning before your interview, and just say you are "checking in" to see if the interview was still on given the conditions. That you were not sure how things were affected at the hospital.

I've had this happen to me before and went and stayed at a hotel near the interview the day before, so I knew I would make it okay. Depends on your situation. I also like the above posters ideas.

I'd re-schedule. I've been watching the international news and the recruiters should understand.
You can't go for a job if you have a bad accident and are badly injured or killed, God forbid.
I'd ring tonight and leave a message even that ur concerned. It shows you are thinking ahead re a dangerous situation, and that I think will count for a lot :)

It is really not a good feeling trying to figure out what to do. I am currently on orientation with a preceptor. I was told by one of my preceptors the last snow storm we had that I should have called and switched days since I am not "essential", there is no point of me being on the road. But, I don't want them to think that when I am a RN on my own that I won't be there, but on the other hand I don't want them to think I am stupid and take chances I shouldn't. I guess I should note that I live 60 miles away and have to endure crappy county roads that don't get treated/plowed till it's done snowing. My husband insists on driving me (very sweet and pretty cool time spent together) but then I worry about him making it home and then coming back to get me (I feel it is senseless for him to be in danger that much). I am really not scared of driving in the snow, it is just all the other nuts on the road that scare me. That is why I am so happy when they just close the roads, I feel it makes it safer traveling for those of us that must!

I'd call the manager to make sure the interview is still on, but I would plan on going in. If you can't get hold of the manager, just go in anyway. It will look better for you! It'll show you're willing to tough things out to make it to work and that you're dedicated. Just drive carefully!
