I'm not sure how true this is, however I do know that they are trying to make the BSN the entry level into nursing. With a BSN you get go into management, also the BSN focuses on research where as the ADN have more clinical hours.

Well I have heard that too where I live. I guess since the economy is in the crapper that employers can be more picky than usual. If you can afford it and have the time then go for the BSN, if you want to get your degree quickly then get an ADN and then do an RN-BSN program. Some colleges in your area might have an online RN-BSN program. It might be easier to get hired with a BSN. Or if you want to advance in your nursing career a BSN is a good option.

You really need to find out about the job market in your local area. Find out what employers are looking for in your area. If your local employers are preferring to hire BSN's, then that's what you need to get. However, if you don't have strong BSN programs in your area and employers are not giving their BSN grads any preference in hiring, then getting an ADN first might work well for you.

Look at the local job postings ... make a few phone calls to the Nurse Recruiters of the local hospitals ... etc. and find out what the situation is at places where you might like to work after graduation.

Consider those tasks to be your first "homework" for nursing school. Your assignment is to find out about the local nursing job market.
