Neagtive...responses to my wanting to enter Lpn program..

Please help!!

Other than my family ( hubby & kids) EVERYONE else is very negative about my wanting to obtain a desire that I have had for such a LONG time...and that is to become a Nurse!

I have worked as a CNA for Years...( over 15 ). Due to many factors, I had to put my goals on hold..and now finally after all this time, I am in a place in my life when I can go back and complete what I started long ago..( I took some pre-classes off and on at our local CC...

Anyway, the negative stuff stems from my AGE....I'm in my late 40's ( very late :specs: ) but look and feel much younger!!...I been told things like..."Why bother at YOUR age", or you will encounter hard times study wise, or "you won't fit in with the normal student s age wise..and other heart breaking comments...

Please help!! I WANT to do this and if I get in,..then I WILL Do this.....Just looking for some Encouragement....Thanks!!!!

I'm 37, in the LPN program, and about half my class is my age or older. We have more 30+ students than new highschool grads. Age is NOT a reason to hold you back. I was nervous about it when I started my pre-req's, but I realized that many of my classmates were close to my age. Two of the instructors in my program came to nursing late, and the nurse I was assigned to at clinical today is my age & just graduated last August. Go for it! Do not let age hold you back. :)

I'm considered to be a non traditional student because I'm 29 years old and didn't complete studies right after high school. Even my mother who has been a CNA for well over 25 years hit a roadblock in her education back then, and she wasn't able to finish her nursing program. She is 57 and still wants to go back to finish what she started, and I'm right there to cheer her on :-) I'm not listening to any negative feedback because this is why people put off things that they have a passion for just to keep folks quiet. Some people will never be happy on your decisions, that's why I'm doing what I want! I will be starting my classes in March, and I know it will some much younger students there, don't really matter because I'm on a mission to help those in need, no one will deter me from my goals!! Go For it and you will be so glad you did :-)
