2nd Timers: we will do it :)

Just thought I'd try to start a thread for those facing the devil again...

Let's all talk about our strategy, what's working, and how we can conquer the beast :ninja:

Do you want to study together rosemaryahamor? I need a study buddy.

I'm studying for my second time as well. I was disappointed in myself, but I let the anxiety get to me. I'm reviewing content again and will do some questions. I do feel better knowing what the test is like and I think that will help my anxiety to not be overwhelming for me. Good luck everyone! We can do it!??

Do you guys want to start a FB group? We can share our notes or things that help?

Sounds good to me.

Just took my first Hurst Q and got an 87... I hope this is working Marlene ;)

So Kaplan is not good this my second time too n i Want to take a online course and I am between Kaplan n hurts

My program required Kaplan.. I had all scores above 60 - 65. I should've been golden. My 2 cents, not that they're worth much, go with core content. I did well in my classes and thought I would be fine. I got in there and got the most random questions that we never touched on. After having gone through Hurst now, I feel like I get concepts better than I even did in nursing school. Rather than having memorized what the BP should.. I get why it is that now. And I get how everything correlates to each other..like a giant jigsaw puzzle. If one piece is missing, how does it affect the rest...etc. I found myself taking that first test and getting what disease they were hinting at right away, and thinking of what the answer could be.. versus Kaplan's method of deduction (which isn't always true). For instance, I had a Hurst Q question yesterday where airway wouldn't be an issue with that syndrome. If you follow Kaplan's ABC's you would pick airway and be wrong. I did tons of Kaplan questions.. the ENTIRE Q bank. For me the rationales made you feel confused b/c one rationale didn't hold true for another question. It left me less confident. Whereas with Hurst, I feel like I have a good understanding of the core content and you can't go wrong with that. Why not know why without a doubt than leave it up to an answering strategy? Just my opinion.. not worth much until I pass the test next time though, right? ;)

2nd 3rd 4th etc. as long as we wont give up! :)

I am using Hurst now - I love it! Awesome content review. Doing NCLEX3500 and Saunders 5th ed. for questions. I hope we can make it happen this time!!!! :)

Hi, I failed twice, and 3rd time takers. I did only Kaplan, and didn't work for me. I was considering get Saunders 5th for content review, but are doing Saunders just for questions? how is Hurst? Sorry for asking random things at once, but I would appreciate your answer. Thank you.

Hello searay124,

I totally agree with you, my school required kaplan, and scored 60-65, and failed on NCLEX. I was considering about getting some content review material. Do you think Hurst is helpful?

Hi! Thanks so much for starting this post! I failed in early July and have been down on myself ever since. I took Kaplan as well and felt that Kaplan did nothing for me. It's definitely frustrating and disheartening to see about 90% of your nursing class pass and your stuck taking it again, HOWEVER WE WILL PASS THE SECOND TIME! I book a lippincott book that has 6000 questions and it has specific questions to specific content. I also bought a hurst review book. I've also been reading the Kaplan review book for content. I feel that my problem is both content and test taking strategies. The first time I took it all I did was do questions and found out that wasn't enough. My test is coming up soon and I will have studied for it for 3 weeks, in all of your experiences do you think that's enough? I wanted to take it as soon as I could because I don't want to forget the content. What's the mnemonic posted on here? Any advice would be helpful! Once again thanks so much for starting a thread like this!
