Published

So i took the CNA class in the fall of 11' and got an A- but ended up failing the clinical part cuz my instructor said i was to slow and cuz i couldn't move a resident by myself. SO i was just wondering if any of u guys/gals could give me some advise on how i can pass the clinical part of the class. Thanks

Too slow is not a reason to fail someone from clinical. That is crazy, being able to move someone alone takes confidence as long as its safe.

Youtube videos on skills. Practice on friends and family. Most importantly have confidence in yourself. Also maybe you will get a different clinical instructor and that should help.

That's not right that she failed for being too slow. You just need more practice. Youtube was a Godsend for me.

Thats what my family and friend say. I will look for the youtube videos. I have even thought about chanllenging the state over this but in the state of ILLINOIS u have to past both classroom ans clinicals to move on to the state test

Did you take a timed skills test before moving on to clinicals? At my school they had us pass a timed skills test before we could go on to clinical. Those who were too slow had to show up to extra lab days and improve their skills before starting at the LTC facility.

I think it is better to be safe and slow than rush and omit a safety step...

Well they had us do some skills in lap and the others we had to do that the LTC Facility. I also think its safe to be slow then to rush. We also had to pass the check offs in lab in order to move on the the check offs in clinicals

1st as an LPN there is no way that I would expect someone to do a certain skill in a set amount of time. That is just crazy. Unless it took you an half an hour to place a bedpan or something.

When I had to test and pass off staff CNAs on skills, for example pericare, I did not want to see how fast you could do it, but that you did it properly. Same thing with transfers, vitals, bedmaking, shaving, positioning. These are not speed races. Time management comes with experience.

AZMOMO2 We do get to choose are clinical instructors and this time im going with the one who teaches the class more. Plus the instructor i had last semester never was a CNA she went straight to RN and the instructor who was the main instructor was a CNA before going to RN. But im not sure if that could be a problem to y i failed last semester. Guess i will find out this spring semester
