2nd Career RNS >40?

Published

I would like to know from 2nd career RNS who are either in process of getting RN degree or in the field now if you regret your decision to enter nursing or happy with decision? I would like to know the pros and cons. Thanks...

Specializes in Registered Nurse.

Got into nursing as an adult. It is the right career for the right person. It's not at all an *easy* job. Patients deserve good nurses and it helps to know ahead of time that you are going to work hard and have to multitask in a BIG way. It's not for the faint or the lazy. In most nursing positions, at least to start out, the smells are bad and the sights are not too pleasing. You may get lunch and breaks, but some nurses don't have time to take them.

I was 42 when I graduated. Before that I was a mid-level manager in banking. Two different worlds. Some days I would do it again, other days, no. I miss the sharp clothes and perfume and hairstyle and nailpolish....... Geezzzz, I need to quit thinking about that! :)

I was 46 when I graduated and got my RN. I worked in the travel industry before. No regrets.

OT: Cyberkat...what type of nursing do you practice?? just curious.

37 y/o mom of 3. going through lpn-rn trans.
