NCP Vocational School?

Published

hello!

i'm planning on going to school to become an LVN this year. there have been a couple of posts about NCP in south san francisco but none from students who are currently attending or who have already graduated. do they have a good program? is it worth the money? thanks for any info.

also, i'm a newbie and am very grateful for this website!

Prettypie,

I moved your post to the California Forum for more responses. When asking about a particular institution, we usually have the best luck in the state forums. Good luck to you!

Hey pretty pie...I was amazed to see you mention my previous school that i graduated from NCP. I have to tell you that NCP is a wonderful school; I went to the one in Hayward but we share the same staff as south city. I learned a lot at that school, and our WHOLE class passed the NCLEX..! 100% passing rate, so im glad you chose NCP. Although I heard the hayward campus has a higher passing rate than south city, but NCP is a great choice...So best of luck to u in the nursing program...its only a year...and its very intense, fast, AND stressful, but well worth it. GOOD LUCK~!!!!..and study hard!!...take care...

jerilyn,

thank you so much for replying to my post. i'm glad to hear that NCP is a great school and that your entire class did well. i will be starting the admission procedure next month and hopefully begin classes in may. thanks for the advice and best of luck to you as well with your career.

take care!

just wondering if any of you started ncp? Iam looking at that school, any more info would be helpful.

just got info from ncp today program cost 24,950.00,:oalso indicated may be waiting list. about a year ago or so I thought it was around 19,000.00. maybe I should start a vocational school instead of attending one.:lol2: unitek over 33,000? western career 41,000?

i didn't thought that western career for that price?! amazing.

my cousin's wife went to ncp and drove from vallejo to hayward for the lvn program it was a big sacrifice for her part and my parent's part since they were there almost everyday from 6 am...i'm going to check that out too because merritt college, where i'm taking my A&P have a program but it's by lottery and they only accept about 30 and they have 50+ and counting applicants right now. there's no chance for me to get into the program right away since i want to get over with my lvn and move on to take the lvn-rn bridge either at merritt, ccsf, or chabot

good luck and let me know if you have decided to take it or not; we may happen to be classmates too =)

I am currently a student at NCP. Just got done with A&P. I am currently taking Gen. Phsycology class. I am hoping to get in the Jan 08 LVN program. So far, admissions said that they have 11 applicants that are already accepted.

Great school and great faculty. A&P teacher is extremely knowledgeable.

Also, they will be having an RN program next year. What I heard is that they are partnering with St. Mary's college to offer the RN program. Good news to me since my only goal is to become an RN.

Wow NCP.... I Graduated in 05. SSF 19k was the cost and the teachers back then were the best but our clinical hours was harsh pulling 6:30am-4pm sumtimes till 5pm somedays.. My GF Graduated 07 Hayward and paid 22k I think.. sorry to say she didn't learn much clinical wise there, since they kept losing teachers and a director. But hey what school doesn't have problems.

The bridging program from LVN to RN... they have been saying this for years so don't get your hopes high..

Don't get me wrong, I mention this school to people looking to get into nursing.... its a good school to get through to get your ATT

Sup Chris. Its me Rey. Funny to catch you on these boards.

Anyways I graduated from NCP with Chris' GF. Like he said, we didnt get to learn alot during clinicals. If you get the chance to do something like a catheter, stage 3 wound treatment, etc. dont be shy and just volunteer. You might not get another chance to try it.

The A&P and Gen Psyche teacher is really good but you wont be having her during the program. She only teaches those 2 subjects. For the most part it was alot of self study for us. But hey if you want to be a nurse do the work. Also expect to graduate late. I was in the part time program. It was suppose to be 18 months but ended up to be 20.

Although the tuition has increased I believe that they now offer financial aid. When I joined they didnt have that so it came out of my pocket.

Good luck!

Hello there! I graduated from NCP in November 2007 (still waiting for my results). It's a wonderful school! The staff are great and the curriculum is the best. My class has a 100% passing rate so far. I learned a lot from my clinicals but that all depends on what type of patients you have at the time. I especially loved my clinicals at SF General Hospital.

The tuition increases every year and I believe NCP has one of the lowest compared to Unitek & WCC. And yes, they have an LVN to RN program beginning Fall 2008. Or so they say...they have been saying that for years. I think it might happen this year according to their website. We'll see...

The only thing I didn't like about NCP is the shortage of nursing instructors that resulted in changing our theory schedule and clinical schedule. It wasn't a big deal to me but it might be a problem for some people. Other than those things I highly recommend NCP.:up:

I too am thinking of ncp. For those who went, how many hours a day or week did you study after school and clinicals? And was that everyday? Did you ever take a day off? I am wondering, because I had two high-mainenance kids and so I removed myself from the Chabot RN program, which was too much. I now think going for LPN, then RN later on, may be better for family life. Anyway, I was working about more than 50 hours/week, that was ok, but it increased by a lot, and this was the light semester!
