NCLEX without passing CG???

Published

I have heard that some cities in USA doesn't required CGFNS. Is it possible to take the NCLEX without taking CG exam? Hope to hear from all of you nurses from other countries working now in US. Thanks...

OK somebody clue me in!!!....What is "CGFNS"??....I'm sooo clueless here!!.........Thanks!![/quote']ME TOO! :uhoh3:

CGFNS=== Certification for Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools.

You do not need it because you graduated and trained in an American school.

CGFNS stands for Certification for Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools. All nurses coming to the US must pass either CGFNS exam or NCLEX plus the complete battery of English exams before being considered for a visa. CGFNS is given primarily overseas and in only 6 sites in the US. NCLEX currently is given only in the US and its territories but they are talking about starting a trial program administering the exam in several overseas countries sometime later this year or next.

Hope that this info helps.

ok, I'm really digging my stupid hole deeper and deeper. I withdraw my comment about Missouri not requiring it, I thought we didn't because I didn't have to take it. But since I'm not a foreign nurse and I had no idea what I was talking about, obviously I wouldn't have to take it. :imbar

PM means personal message.

Most states require CGFNS for their foreign applicants. It is a comprehensive 250 question exam given to foreign grads that wish to work in the US and meet the educational requirements for licensure. It is a timed exam meaning 1 minute for 1 question. Very different from NCLEX and in my opinion, much harder. Especially due to language factor and the time allotment.

Hope that this helps................. :balloons:

I'm endorsement license from CA to Missouri .They didn't require any experience. Most of foriegner who want to get license and don't need to deal with CGFNS and TOEFL are choose to take NCLEX with CA ,NY and FL.One of my frien who never took TOEFL or CGFNS she passed NCLEX from CA and she is working as RN in Houston,TX:)

This is the fact.I called Missouri board and they didn't have any requirement about any experience before I can endorse my license at all

Hi, I just called Missouri board of nursing and KAnsas board of nursing about endorsement.

They said" I don't need to have any experience before I can be eligible for Endorsement for RN from another state "

I haven't start to work as RN yet Suzan.I'm waiting to work as RN in Missouri because my family is in MIssouri .Most of foreigners who can't wait to get the results from CGFNS , TOEFL and TWE . Because they don't know when they will be able to pass those tests choosed to deal with CA,NY ,FL and NV board.

It take only 4 -6 months to be reviewed document and when you found eligible you can take NCLEX.I'm sorry I'm not trying to be rude .I didn't even plan to take TOEFL ,but I paid it before I met my Chinese friend who work in TX,who gave me information about easier way to get license in USA:)

Lucky me ,I got 207,level 4 from TWE as they required.I didn't plan to take CGFNS for the 3rd time :p ,but I got the result of my NCLEX test the day after I mailed my application:p I still think about to get the refund

I plan to take CGFNS eventhough it doesn't mean anything for me right now (I'm married with an American so I got working permit,I had my green card and another 3 years I will be American citizen if I pass the test with the Government) . I spent lot of money on TOEFL and CGFNS and I already passed TOEFL so passing CGFNS is my second goal right now.

Suzan,I asked the same question when I frist heard about I don't need to pass any test before I found eligible from CA board.

They not evencare about if I have working permit or not.Because if you passed the test, the hospital will ask you about others document.

If they don't have authorization from INS.Yes, they need to pass TOEFL

One of Thai nurse who passed NCLEX test in CA .She came here by Tourist visa .She passed NCLEX ,TOEFL ,TWE but didn't pass TSE so the hospital required her to pass TSE .They didn't mention about CGFNS at all.

Most foreign nurses do not have the luxury like you of being married to an American. They must go through the Visa Screen process, which requires the full set of English exams. Florida requires the Credentials Evaluation from CGFNS, so yes you still need to deal with them. NY requires the special verification from CGFNS, also. California doesn't require those but they have a wait of 6 months for ATT letter, and another 8 months for processing of petition.

And your friendwho is working in Texas, did she need to get her own visa or is she married to an American? Big difference.................

Just because a state board of nursing doesn't require English exams, most hospitals do, especially the very good hospitals, where I would want to work.

There are places that don't require English exams, but then I would not even consider working in most of them. If there is a problem with communication, the hospital can get sued for about $10,000,000. It is quite different in the US than it is in Thailand, and yes, nurses do get sued in the US.

You have a license, but no job yet? Let me know what the hopsital says....

If a foreign nurse wants to work in the US, and obtain their own green card, they have a choice of either CGFNS or NCLEX and the English exams. CGFNS is given overseas, NCLEX is not. Not all nurses meet the qualifications for a tourist visa now for the US. And you being Thai should know that!

The only other option that they have is to fly to Saipan and take the exam there. But again it depends on where you want to work. Illinois requires CGFNS, you can only endorse to them if you have two years actual work experience in the US, not just hold a license for two years, otherwise you are required to take the exam. Michigan requires CGFNS, even of nurses from Canada. And there are many others like that.

You have a license but are still not working..............wonder why? :uhoh3:

The reason why I can't get job in Missouri because I 'm obtained license from CA .CA board need to send me endorsement verification to Missouri board.

I haven't look for any job yet because I have to wait for temporary working permit as RN from Missouri board of Nursing. It will be issued sometime in June .I can go to CA and get a job ,but my problem is my husband. He hates to live in CA,so I think I work as CNA for almost 9 months ,why can't I wait another month for endorsement process .I talked with human resources and they didn't mention anything about English test or Spoken test ,so I assumed it will be ok for me to get RN job in MISSOURI.

I don't know about how can my friend got visa ,but she didn't marry with an American.Maybe student 's visa

Anyway, I will let you know :rotfl:

Without a green card, you cannot work legally as an RN. You csnnot work on a student visa. Without the English exams, you cannot get a green card; at least a green card on your own and not due to a spouse. Those are the laws of the US. Sure, you can get a license to work as a Registered Nurse in those states that you listed, but you can't work there legally until you have a green card. I know of many Thai nurses that have passed NCLEX and have a license for NY or CA but they are not working as they haven't passed their English exams. If they try to work illegally and get caught, they lose their chance to ever get a green card.

There are no legal quick fixes for working in the US. Sure, there are promises of things, which turn out to be essentially slave labor, and whose fault is that? The nurse too, for being crazy enough to sign a contract in English when his/her English skills are not good enough.

But please, don't tell others about quick ways to get a license in the US.....

You can't work without the green card, right now 8 months minimum for petition to work in California. Please let me know when you actually begin work. Let's seehow long it actually is for you, you remember that you actually have a green card...............

Did you ask at Human Resources of the facility where you are already employed? Your friend that didn't take TOEFL can't be working legally as a nurse in Texas. US Federal Government says that she can't.................

Hi,

I got a job interview today .It was my 1st time as RN to get an interview.I received Temporary license from MO last Tuesday. They were so kind. They fax me a verification of my license.I droped my application yesterday and I got an interview this morning.I still have another interview with Medical -Surgical Unit manager. They gave me employment package and RN position are opening for 10 positions , so I'm pretty sure I will get a job.

Anyway, they didn't mention about I have to take Spoken test .

I will let you know the reult.:rotfl:
