I have heard that some cities in USA doesn't required CGFNS. Is it possible to take the NCLEX without taking CG exam? Hope to hear from all of you nurses from other countries working now in US. Thanks...
could you guide me what to do, I want to work as a nurse in U.S.A. presently I am working here in Canada but I am not a citizen of this country I am from Philippines and graduated as a nurse there. I just pass the TOEFL exam last may 1,2004 and I have mail now my application for nclex exam in california. Do you think I have to take the tse while waiting for ATT from california and can I pass my application for visa screen if I have not yet taken the nclex? If I pass nclex and toefl can I work as a nurse in states without tse?
Hi AnnI was a EN who converted to RN and I have had no problems re doing the conversion course, the only problem I have is that the cgfns are soooooooo slow[

My problem with that is I don't have a current registration and aparently you have to have a current registration to take the exam. I let my registration lapse as I didn't think I would go back into nursing. The NMC told me obviously wrongly that I would have to get US registration anyway and it would be okay.
Thanks Ann
Another suggestion would to contact California Board of Nursing, as they don"t require any type of verification thru CGFNS. And since you do not need to be petitioned for a green card and already have a SSN, you won't have the same time constraints. See what they say.................Good luck and please let me know what you decide to do...............
Suzanne.
Don't you need to live in California to take their state boards?
Thanks Ann

First, bad mistake by applying to California for initial licensure. You probably did not read any of my other posts. It is going to take you over 6 months before you will receive your ATT letter, which gives you permission to sit for the NCLEX exam.
You will not receive a Visa Screen Certificate without passing the full English series, whch means TSE, TWE, and TOEFL or the IELTS series, and a choice of either CGFNS exam or NCLEX. You can submit your application for Visa Screen now, but you will not actually receive the Certificate until about 4 months after you complete the last of your exams, both nursing and English.
You can not work in the US without having a Visa Screen...........so no you cannot work in the US with just TOEFL. You are looking at over two years before you will receive a green card, petition time is over 13 months once you get hired.
Hi Suzanne: I am a foreign nurse willing to work in the US. I'm currently in Florida on vacation for four months but also working on the application process for licensure by examination in Florida. I have completed the Toefl and TSE, have the CGFNS credentials evaluation report already submitted to the Florida BON, and completed the application process to sit for NCLEX once I receive the authorization to test. Could you kindly advice if there is something I am missing in order to take advantage of the time I will be in Fl.
At what point do you consider adviceable to start applying with recruiting agencies? Once I have passed the NCLEX or I could start from now.
What is best, search for job directly with the hospitals or it is most recommeded to work for an agency?
Thanks. Dspence:rolleyes:

I would start immediately with th application for Visa Screen and get that taken care of right away. While you are there, why not interview for a position? I would go with a hospital directly since you already have done everything by yourself.
Good luck..................... :balloons:
Suzanne: Thanks so much for your response. I now feel like I'm on track.
Today I started working on the Visa screen certification paper work, I called CGFNS and evidently I do not have to re-submit license verification or nursing education forms, which makes the process time little shorter. I am navigating for hospitals in my area looking for interviews. Do you think I should consider work with an agengy or there are more benefits doing everything on my own?
Again, thanks a lot for your advice.
Dspence:)

You are right, I will choose to seek job opportunities directly with hospitals on my own. I will keep in contact in with you for advise when needed. is this ok?
Many thanks for your support.

Agencies are good if you do not know what to file, and you have already done everything. Someone has to pay the agency, shouldn't the money be going into your pocket?
