NCLEX test recommendations

Published

I am a nursing student and I am wanting some recommendations for getting ready for NCLEX. Any tips or books that are good for studying? thanks

I have taken some review courses but I feel that it may be a waste of money, however many have viewed Kaplan very resourceful if you are weak in test taking strategies.

If you are low on money, I would suggest buying Saunders Comprehensive 4th ed for a full content review. At the end of each chapter there are quizzes and if you feel that you are solid on the material, you could review other areas. It provides test taking strategies.

Bare in mind that all of these prep books and review courses are JUST REVIEW. In order to really work through the NCLEX, you have to use the patho that you know and apply it by critical thinking in the situations of the question and answer accordingly. Use these reivew as reference, but dont limit yourself to other resources.

There is a wonderful book Priorities and Delegations by LaCharity that alot of ppl have recommended, seeing as NCLEX is based on priority. You'll never hear the end of that. :)

I hope that helps.

If you haven't graduated yet, you need to concentrate on that first. Put forth maximum effort to learn the material you are being presented while in school. You can pick out a review book after graduation to get the latest edition available at that time. Most people are satisfied with the Saunders review book, but you should visit the nursing section in the major bookstores and check out the various books available to see which you think you will like.

took NCLEX-RN first try for 75... i studied saunder's 3rd edition but most preferred 4th edition.. i used kaplan too.. and i think it really helped. Read Prioritization, Delegation by Mosby... I studied for a month and about 8 hours a day.

Goodluck...God bless

In your opinion, how important was it to memorize lab values?

very important... it is very useful in NCLEX...

Follow the advice given. When is your graduation? If you have a while to go as Caliotter3 suggested, concentrate on school for now as you need to learn the materials being covered before you can think about NCLEX exams.:twocents:
